Even the most casual observer of history or of current events knows that socialism invariably produces tyranny, poverty, and dysfunction. Quite often, it results in genocide. It eradicates the middle class, leaving a polarized, ossified society consisting of the rulers and the ruled.

Thanks to our country’s founding in the principles of liberty, Americans have benefitted immensely from the relative absence of socialism.

Despite all this, when Will Witt asked people he encountered at Echo Park Lake in Los Angeles whether socialism should be imposed on the USA, most of the responses were what you might expect in a college faculty lounge:
