The More Cannabis You Smoke, the More Likely You Are to Be a Loser!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Alexander Robertson reports in the Daily Mail,

International research has revealed that the more cannabis you smoke, the more likely you are to be lower paid and have relationship difficulties.

The study followed children from birth up to the age of 38 and found people who smoked cannabis four or more days a week over many years ended up in a lower social class than their parents.

It also found that regular and persistent users ended up with lower-paying, less skilled and less prestigious jobs than those who were not regular cannabis smokers.

Financial, work-related and relationship difficulties were further experienced by those taking the drug, which worsened as the number of years of regular cannabis use progressed.

The study, conducted by a team of researchers led by Magdalena Cerda at the University of California and Avshalom Caspi and Terrie Moffitt at Duke University, appeared in the journal Clinical Psychological Science.

‘Our research does not support arguments for or against cannabis legalization,’ said Cerda. ‘But it does show that cannabis was not safe for the long-term users tracked in our study.

‘Our study found that regular cannabis users experienced downward social mobility and more financial problems such as troubles with debt and cash flow than those who did not report such persistent use.

‘Regular long-term users also had more antisocial behaviors at work, such as stealing money or lying to get a job, and experienced more relationship problems, such as intimate partner violence and controlling abuse.’

Researchers claimed the study was important as it addresses an array of ‘potentially confounding factors’ not included in past studies assessing cannabis’ long-term effects on users.

Economic and social problems persisted in long-term, regular users of pot even after the authors accounted for other potential differences between regular cannabis users and other participants.

‘Even among cannabis users who were never convicted for a cannabis offense, we found that persistent and regular cannabis use was linked to economic and social problems’, said Caspi.

While both heavy alcohol and cannabis use were similarly associated with declines, the authors found that those dependent on cannabis experienced more financial difficulties.

‘Cannabis may be safer than alcohol for your health, but not for your finances,’ said Moffitt.

      This article is absurd.
First, it implies that being in a “lower social class” is somehow a negative.
We live in a society in which “social class” is directly tied to finances. A society in which, also, has an economic ladder that is far more easily climbed by insidious predatory, guile filled behavior.
Many people live in poverty, not because of their education level, intelligence, ambition level, or moral stances, but because they simply have morality and sincerity so high that they refuse to do the underhanded evil that chasing wealth often requires.
There are many very intelligent diligent people who would rather do menial labor that allows them to keep their dignity and integrity than to resort to the evils of chasing mammon.

Second , and most importantly, we live in a society of drug addicts, people addicted to serious drugs like tobacco, opiods, and alcohol.

Watch tobacco addicts some time. They get their fix, and 20 minutes later withdrawals are setting in with symptoms such as aggression, anger , anxiety, and confusion, which means they must get another fix soon to keep the symptoms from getting worse. So within an hour of the first fix, they need a second. And less than an hour later, a third. They are constantly having social problems because their behavior is controlled by being in a constant state of withdrawal.
And alcohol, which is nothing more or less than liquid heroin, is far worse. Withdrawals aren’t minor, they are horrendous and often deadly.

Most pot smokers I know are not addicted and many suffer no withdrawals. I happen to be someone who does have withdrawals from it, similar to tobacco withdrawals, not quite as bad. Therefore I do not smoke it regularly.
Most pot smokers are occassional smokers, and most regular pot smokers I know who do not suffer side effects from it are quite successful people.
Those of them who do not use other drugs such as tobacco and alcohol tend to do far better in life than tobacco addicts or alcohol addicts.
There is a difference between tobacco addiction and alcohol addiction in that alcohol addiction most often takes a while to achieve, where tobacco addiction occurs very rapidly. Damn few people can smoke a cigaratte a day, most develop tolerances very rapidly and must keep putting nicotine in their bodies to not suffer the ills of withdrawal.

I have been addicted to all of them, and trust me , alcohol withdrawals are something you DO not want to experience.
Tobacco withdrawals are not nearly as bad, but they can still turn someone into a raving nutcase.
Most pot smokers just don’t feel compelled to use it often enough to get hooked, in my experience.
Not that I advocate its’ use. It is a great painkiller ( which is how I used it, I have long term severe chronic pain) and has its’ place, and I love smoking it, but I just cannot do so very often, I am among those who suffer side effects.
Anyones life is better if they can have natural happiness and not artificially induced happiness.
If you don’t smoke pot I don’t suggest doing it.
But to demonize it is stupid. Equally as stupid is putting people in jails that are far more detrimental to them than pot is.

I also consider the possibility that those who aren’t saddled with concern for the social stigma of being a pot smoker are less likely to lie about their use, as opposed to social climbers and brass ring chasers who fear being labeled as a pot head might be detrimental to their goals.
Those in executive positions aren’t particularly known for casually sharing their crutches with others.

This article is not true. I don’t smoke pot but I have worked with many people that do. I worked in the design engineering department for a large disk drive manufacturer. These people were highly productive and innovative. However the down side is that two of them died of throat cancer and one got busted by the cops for possession. The others are probably still smoken and tokin.
