Rep. Waltz Announces Subcommittee Assignments

Freshman Congressman Michael Waltz announced today his appointment to subcommittees whose vast jurisdictions includes multiple Florida priorities.

As a member of the House Armed Services and Science, Space and Technology Committees, he has also been appointed to the Armed Services Committee’s Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and the Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee. In the Committee on Science, Space and Technology, he will sit on the Subcommittee on Space and the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight.

Commenting on the appointments, Waltz noted that the “assignments are an important opportunity to craft and develop thoughtful policies for Florida’s economy and our national defense.”

Further describing the contributions he will make, Waltz described that “the ability to support the continued growth of our commercial space industry from the Subcommittee on Space is a tremendous privilege and will be critical to ensuring these 21^st Century jobs remain in Central Florida. The Subcommittee members are tasked with the delicate balance of providing certainty to a pioneering industry in need of guidance without restricting innovation.”

Waltz concluded, recounting that “as a Green Beret and former national security and counterterrorism advisor in the White House and Pentagon, it’s a tremendous honor to utilize my skillset and experience on the Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities.”

In addition, Waltz detailed that he’s most “eager for the opportunity to dive into the policy priorities of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee where I will be working to ensure our Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Programs have everything they need to successfully complete their missions.”

In short, the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee holds oversight over Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force programs; the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee focuses on overseeing counterterrorism programs and initiatives and counter proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; the Subcommittee on Space holds legislative jurisdiction, oversight and investigative authority on matters relating to astronautical and aeronautical research and development; and the Subcommittee on Oversight has general and investigative authority on matters dealing within the jurisdiction of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
