DOJ Says Ex-FBI Agent Strzok Committed ‘Security Violations,’ Used Unsecured Devices For FBI Work – (11/19/2019)

The Department of Justice released a scathing report Monday on former FBI agent Peter Strzok, best remembered as an original member of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigative team.

The DOJ is accusing Strzok of various “security violations” and flagrantly “unprofessional conduct” in documents filed Monday.

Strzok allegedly used the same unsecured personal devices for sensitive FBI work as he did to carry on an extra-marital affair with then-FBI attorney Lisa Page. Strzok’s wife discovered the dalliance after perusing her husband’s phone messages.

The DOJ released the documents in response to Strzok’s lawsuit. He claims he was fired without just cause and that his anti-Trump texts should be protected as free speech. Strzok is demanding back pay and reinstatement in the FBI.

In its effort to refute Strzok’s lawsuit, the DOJ references an August 2018 letter to Strzok from DOJ’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) that accuses Strzok of a “dereliction of supervisory responsibility” when he allegedly failed to assess whether Hillary Clinton’s emails found on Anthony Weiner’s personal laptop were classified. (Peter Strzok Suspected CIA Was Behind Inaccurate Media Leaks)

That led to then-FBI Director James Comey announcing a possible link between the Weiner laptop and the Clinton emails just days before the 2016 presidential election.

Both the DOJ and OPR cast doubt on Strzok’s insistence that he “double deleted” FBI business from his cell phone because his wife seems to have located potentially incriminating evidence on the phone of his affair with Page. OPR notes that Strzok did not allow investigators to inspect his phone even as he admitted using Apple’s iMessage in the course of his FBI duties.

1. Strzok-Page Emails Show FBI Officials Using Unsecure Devices for Sensitive Messages (8/13/2019)

(Washington, DC) — Judicial Watch announced today that it has received 47 pages of records from the Department of Justice, including email exchanges between fired FBI official Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page revealing that FBI officials used unsecure devices in discussing how the U.S. could improve the sharing of sensitive data with the European Union top executive governing commission.

The documents also reveal that high-ranking FBI officials were not properly read-in to top secret programs.

Judicial Watch obtained the documents through a January 2018 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed after the DOJ failed respond to a December 4, 2017 FOIA request (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:18-cv-00154)). Judicial Watch is seeking:

• All records of communications, including but not limited to, emails, text messages and instant chats, between FBI official Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page;
• All travel requests, travel authorizations, travel vouchers and expense reports of Peter Strzok.
• All travel requests, travel authorizations, travel vouchers and expense reports of Lisa Page.

The newly obtained emails came in response to a May 21 order by U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton to the FBI to begin processing 13,000 pages of records exchanged exclusively between Strzok and Page between February 1, 2015, and December 2017. The FBI refuses to timely process the records and will not complete review and production of all the Strzok-Page materials until at least 2020.

In a January 30, 2016 email exchange sent entirely over unsecure devices, top former FBI officials including General Counsel Jim Baker, Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, Strzok, Page, unidentified individuals from the DOJ’s National Security Division and NSA General Counsel Glenn Gerstell, discuss a draft document with the subject line: “Revised IC Safe Harbor Letter (from [redacted] using [redacted] iPad).”

2. JW Sues Justice for Communications between key Anti-Trump Collusion Officials Peter Strzok and Bruce Ohr (4/30/2019)

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for communications between two of the pivotal players in the Deep State, anti-Trump collusion – former FBI official Peter Strzok and Justice Department official Bruce Ohr (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:19-cv-01082)).

The suit was filed after Judicial Watch submitted two similar July 20, 2018, FOIA requests to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), a component of the Justice Department. The FBI failed to respond, while the Justice Department claimed to find no records of communications between Strzok and Ohr. The lawsuit seeks:

All records of communication between FBI official Peter Strzok and, Bruce Ohr, in either his role as Associate Deputy Attorney General or Director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, including but not limited to emails (whether on .gov or non-.gov email accounts, and whether using their real names or aliases), text messages, encrypted app messages and/or instant chats.

The time frame for the requested records is January 2016 to July 20, 2018.

Judicial Watch is challenging the Justice Department’s extraordinary claim that there are no records of communications between Strzok and Ohr in light of the preeminent role both individuals played in the Deep State effort to undermine the Trump campaign and administration. In addition, Ohr himself testified before Congress that he did, in fact, meet and communicate with Strzok.

3. Judicial Watch Statement on the Firing of FBI Executive Peter Strzok (8/13/2019)

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton made the following statement regarding reports that FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok was fired:

The firing of Peter Strzok is another body blow to the credibility of the Mueller special counsel operation. Strzok, who hated President Trump, compromised both the Clinton and Trump investigations that saw Hillary Clinton protected and Donald Trump illicitly targeted. Strzok’s anti-Trump texts show the Russia investigation he helped invent with Clinton campaign operatives is irredeemably compromised. As Mueller’s operation is founded on Strzok’s corrupt activities, it must be shut down.

Judicial Watch recently uncovered documents showing that Strzok insisted on retaining his FBI security clearance before moving to the Mueller team and confirming that Strzok played a pivotal role in the flawed Hillary Clinton email investigation. And, previously released records from the DOJ reveal Strzok’s and Page’s profanity-laced disdain for FBI hierarchy and policies.
