Over 3200 people took the streets here, Nov. 10, to voice their dissatisfaction with President-elect Donald Trump. The march was led by the Young People's Resistance Committee (formerly known as Youth Empowered in the Struggle). Like many marches around the country, the people were angry.
The protest started with speakers. Representatives from Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) UWM, United Worker’s Organization and African Student Association UWM gave impressive, emotionally charged speeches. An undocumented student spoke and led chants in both English and Spanish. Then there was a twomile march around Milwaukee’s downtown area, ending with another rally and an openmic speaking session.
The public reaction was extremely positive, and organizing groups have received dozens of messages from interested community members looking to become active.
