“In the early 1990s, Colombia was locked in a brutal drug war, led by Pablo Escobar, that saw homicide rates in Medellin surge over 8x in a matter of just a few years…and it was that surging violence that first prompted Miguel Caballero to start his line of bulletproof clothing some 25 years ago. Now, as Racked points out today, with violent crime in Colombia back to levels not seen since at least the 70s, Caballero is looking to bring his bulletproof fashions to the United States where he’s hoping that growing fears of gun violence, combined with an eager American consumer that is always willing to part with his/her hard-earned cash in pursuit of the next fad, will be a boon for his business.

That was then. Homicides in Colombia have since declined, and Caballero – sometimes called the “Armored Armani” – turned his savvy eye to another country besieged by gun violence and grasping for a sense of security: the United States. Earlier this year, he opened a distribution center in Miami to sell his clothing line to wary Americans. His bulletproof apparel includes all levels of protection as standardized by the U.S. National Institute of Justice (NIJ): IIA, II, IIIA, III, and IV. (More on what those levels mean in a minute.)

Within this industry is a small but growing sector of manufacturers and retailers that, like Caballero, are proffering upscale bulletproof apparel that’s light-years beyond the standard bulletproof vest, both sartorially and functionally. From bespoke suits to safari jackets, the new breed of bulletproof clothing is comfortable and undetectable.

And, lest you think this nothing but a clever gimmick, the Colombian designer has literally shot some 230 people since starting his company in the early 90s to prove the efficacy of his clothing line…including the following demonstration in which he shot his own wife at point blank range…for the 2nd time.

Of course, Caballero is not alone in his efforts to capitalize on the growing body armor manufacturing industry that is estimated to be worth some $465 million in sales in the U.S. and $5.7 billion globally.

Abbas Haider, CEO and president of Aspetto Inc. in Fredericksburg, Virginia, claims to have been the first US purveyor of high-end bulletproof fashion. While Aspetto offers normal apparel and accessories, its best-seller is the bespoke Ballistic Suit Level IIIA ($5,000), comprising lightweight bullet-resistant panels. It can stop a bullet at point-blank range from most handguns and meets testing standards by the NIJ, DEA, and FBI.

Haider started his custom clothing brand in 2008 as a college freshman. As seniors, he and fellow student Robert Davis, now Aspetto’s chief operating officer, teamed up to create high-end bulletproof fashion as part of an international marketing class. The duo met with a ballistics producer and built a prototype suit. “Before we could even present our project to the class, we were already talking to some ‘three-letter’ agencies [e.g., CIA, FBI, NSA, etc.] who were interested in what we had developed,” he says. “After receiving an A on the project, Robert and I decided that we wanted to turn this into a real business and continue expanding on it. The typical body armor user is tired of not seeing any innovation in the industry for years.”

Yet another bulletproof apparel manufacturer and retailer, BulletBlocker, was born as a direct result of violence. After the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, Massachusetts resident Joe Curran feared that a similar tragedy might strike closer to home. “The safety of my two school-aged children motivated the creation of the bulletproof backpacks,” says the former Army ranger, deputy sheriff, and firearms instructor. He founded the company that same year and soon expanded to selling bulletproof clothing, such as the NIJ IIIA Bulletproof Leather Jacket ($875) and NIJ IIIA Bulletproof Classic Two Piece Suit ($1,200). That said, you can’t put a price on peace of mind…might we suggest Chicago or Baltimore for the first flagship store?”

Slowly but surely, the truth of how savagely we, the People, have been financially raped, over and over again, is coming out, and as it does, a tiny minority of our population very secretly shudders in horror…

And fear comes now, at last, to the “Ruling Elite”. Not the fear of financial loss, though that pervades their lives like a gloomy, poisonous cloud of dread. They sense something else, something far more primal and primitive, something never encountered by their kind in their mansions and estates, their country clubs and society balls, something their lives of absolute privilege and comfort could never prepare them for. They feel fear, as their grip on control grows weaker every day, as numbers of a different kind begin to trace the outlines of coming events they could never have conceived, or believed, to be possible. Slowly, inexorably, like an irresistible ocean tide, the source of their fear grows stronger every day, and they are totally unable to stop it. The ‘Masters of the Universe’, these mighty financial titans, are beginning to tremble as the first hints of their most horrifying nightmare begin to materialize, along with the awful realization of what the consequences of that nightmare must mean to their kind.

Worldwide, social unrest and violent protest has broken out in response to massive job loss, deteriorating standards of living, poverty, and the inability of governments to remedy the situation. Not so in America. Despite the incredible suffering now happening here, the job losses, foreclosures, hunger, poverty, the grinding, daily humiliations Americans endure, we have remained strangely passive, like dogs beaten into submission, fearful of the Master’s whip. The “Ruling Elite” have always counted on that docile submissiveness to enable the continuance of their financial rape and plunder of this country – after all, as long as enough crumbs from their tables kept the dogs in check, why bother pacifying them further? And in truth, we, the people, have done nothing to change things, content with the “bread and circuses” of “The Kardashians” and “Survivor”, the “big game” this week, the latest celebrity gossip, all the worthless trivialities we distract ourselves with – God forbid we should ever actually look at what our world has become, no, that’s too painful, we lie to ourselves that “it could never happen here”, far better to remain narcotized in our safe little delusional cocoons. But nothing lasts forever, not even the expectations of the “Ruling Elite.”

Why? Because all their perceived power is an illusion, just like the “money” in their cleverly crafted fiat-money, fractional reserve banking system that has made debt slaves of us all. We, the people, have persuaded ourselves to believe that what they’ve told us is reality, that despite the overwhelming evidence of injustice, social and financial inequality, the monstrous and illegal wars we wage, and real suffering by millions of our own people, that this system is the best we could ever hope for, and to change it would bring chaos and anarchy into our lives, and the destruction of all we know and love. And we, unquestioningly, eagerly, believed that.

Unwittingly, the “Ruling Elite” have brought about the conditions for the very changes they are most terrified of. In their infinite greed and arrogance they’re now destroying the entire world’s economy, creating a $2 QUADRILLION black hole of “derivatives” which will mercilessly crush the life from their cherished creation. Think “margin calls” at an unimaginable, trillions of dollars level. As the dominoes fall, as the entire global financial system must and will collapse, as the system shuts down the effects of this much-sooner-than-later total global economic collapse will include the loss of tens of millions of jobs worldwide; the bankruptcy, failure and closing of the banking system, meaning no ATMs or credit cards, no EBT, Social Security or pensions; food stores empty and looted by hungry people, with no resupply coming; the elimination of many of the material benefits and comforts that have successfully pacified the masses for so long; and violent social unrest up to and including possible civil war. The pain and suffering grows deeper every day, with no end in sight. 50 million Americans, including children, live in poverty; a 24% true unemployment rate; millions of homeless, elderly people choosing between medicine and food, and on, and on, and on!

For the “Ruling Elite” this must be terrifying news. Despite their unimaginable wealth they no longer have any crumbs from their table to give us! And there are very, very many of us, and very few of them. At some point, when the suffering is finally unacceptable anymore, when the pent-up rage, hopelessness and frustrations can’t be tolerated for another moment, when the the true scope of their mistreatment and abuse clarifies into a conscious understanding of what has really happened, and the “Elites” enormous financial house of cards comes crashing down – at that point the people will demand to know and hold accountable who was responsible for it all. Our Masters understand this all too well. They’ve already lost control, and they know it. All that saves them is the continuance of the illusion of “normality”, which is being eroded daily. All they can do is watch in helpless horror as their beaten dogs become increasingly aware and awake, and very, very hungry, enraged and vengeful; and they know with dread, human nature being what it is, that sooner or later they’ll be coming to their table… but it won’t be crumbs they’ll be looking for…

And now you know why Homeland Security purchased 2,717 armored personnel carriers and 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition, and whom they intend to use them on. You…”
