Gun Control Frenzy Simply a Distraction from Budget?

It’s become clear that an attempt to actually prohibit the possession or force the registration of all semi-automatic weapons is going to result in, at worst, insurrection in the U.S and, at best, a widespread case of Civil Disobedience that will make the Federal government look utterly foolish to have even tried. They would be forced to either back down and rescind the ban or try to implement it through force.

Either way the Federal government loses.

Which leads me to suspect that the whole gun control issue will die away at the appropriate time and nothing will actually be done. A few minor changes in ATF regs possibly but nothing that will materially affect anything other than a very small percentage of gun owners. Meanwhile all the attention that SHOULD be currently focussed on the complete collapse of budgetary sanity is being diverted into the emotional issue of gun ownership.

While everyone is busy following every minute by minute twitch of the gun control debate, the Debt Ceiling has sort of disappeared out of the primary news cycles. It’s mentioned as “and also in the news….” or has dropped to page two or after the half time commercial.

I suspect that the Debt Ceiling will be negotiated away out of the light of day giving Obama virtually unlimited borrowing authority without having to ask Congress. No Federal Budget will be presented by the White House or the Senate and the one the House presents will simply be ignored.

Once all that is a done deal then the gun control debate will suddenly and mysteriously die away to be replaced by the next manufactured crisis the Administration conjures up to distract everyone.
