Fraud On Yahoo Mail

You cannot trust Yahoo. A few years ago I experienced fraudulent use of my Yahoo email account. After contacting Yahoo and receiving no help, I traced down the person fraudulently using my email address all over the Internet and contacted her directly. Since she refused to stop and Yahoo did nothing about it, I closed that account and opened another one.

Several months ago my name was stolen and used in spamming my contacts. When it happened the second time and Yahoo did nothing either time, I closed all my accounts. According to their own Terms and Conditions ALL information would be removed from their files.

15. TERMINATION

You may terminate your Yahoo! account, any associated email address and access to the Yahoo! Services by submitting such termination request to Yahoo!.

You agree that Yahoo! may, without prior notice, immediately terminate, limit your access to or suspend your Yahoo! account, any associated email address, and access to the Yahoo! Services. Cause for such termination, limitation of access or suspension shall include, but not be limited to, (a) breaches or violations of the TOS or other incorporated agreements or guidelines, (b)requests by law enforcement or other government agencies, (c) discontinuance or material modification to the Yahoo! Services (or any part thereof), (d) unexpected technical or security issues or problems, (e) extended periods of inactivity, (f) engagement by you in fraudulent or illegal activities, and/or (g) nonpayment of any fees owed by you in connection with the Yahoo! Services. Further, you agree that all terminations, limitations of access and suspensions for cause shall be made in Yahoo!’s sole discretion and that Yahoo! shall not be liable to you or any third party for any termination of your account, any associated email address, or access to the Yahoo! Services.

Termination of your Yahoo! account includes any or all of the following: (a) removal of access to all or part of the offerings within the Yahoo! Services, (b) deletion of your password and all related information, files and content associated with or inside your account (or any part thereof), and (c) barring of further use of all or part of the Yahoo! Services.

Soon after I closed my accounts, a friend notified me she had to close her Yahoo email for the same fraudulent use of her account.

Today we received evidence of the FOURTH fraud on Yahoo. My name again was illegally used to spam my former contact list. I have filed a formal complaint with the government. Now I have to contact everyone who was on my contact list to tell them I am again a victim of fraud and to ignore ANY Yahoo email addresses with my name on them.

If you have a Yahoo email, it might be advisable to close it and find another email service before you have to send a similar warning to your contact list.

Yahoo needs to wake up to the fact they are not above the law. If you have a Yahoo email account and this has happened to you, please file a formal complaint at: http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx as well as to Yahoo (if you can). When enough complaints are received, they will be forced to act against this continual fraud Yahoo allows. Perhaps we can even bring a class action law suit against Yahoo for complicity in thousands of cases of fraud.
