A nation without an identity, is not a nation at all

What do you think of when you hear the word identity? Identity is what sets each of us apart and it is what is unique and different about each of us, it is our own personality, and it is what helps to make us an individual. Key words associated with identity include:

  • Uniqueness
  • Self
  • Personality
  • Sameness
  • Distinctiveness
  • Characteristics
  • Individuality
  • Independence
  • Uniformity

Identity is a very important aspect of our lives as humans because it really defines just who we are and who we are not. Other people recognize us as individuals with distinct and unique personalities with our own ambitions, goals, and desires. It really is what being human is all about and it is one of the things appealing about humans. Therefore, we understand that humans have their own unique identity. However, consider a land, a sovereign nation, a country. Does a nation a country have an identity too?

But first, another question, do you like to travel? Many of us do, it is a great way to expand ones knowledge of the planet and to learn about different cultures and to see other ways of living. When you think of different nations around the globe, quite often, you think of the nation’s unique features. Likely you think of a nation that can be identified by it landscape, its cuisine, its language, its culture. For example, consider just a few nations such as Italy, Spain, Germany, Egypt, Japan, or China. All of these nations have a unique language and culture that makes them easily identifiable. These nations previously mentioned are also very proud of their individualism, their languages, their customs, and their unique cultures. What makes these and most other nations unique is their own identity.

At one time, the United States had its own unique identity. It used to be known as the land of the free and home of the brave. It had a primary language; it had a distinct character and culture that made it different from other nations and even in many ways made it exceptional. The United States used to be a beacon of light not primarily for others to flock to but for other nations to emulate what it had done and what it had accomplished.

Our Founding Fathers believed in spreading the unique ideals of the United States to other lands and they encouraged other leaders of foreign lands to adopt their own Constitutions and Bill of Rights, and ways of liberty and freedom and to extend that freedom and liberty to their own people.

Even the French political thinker and historian Alexis de Tocqueville, who traveled in an early America in the mid- 1800’s, believed the United States was different with its own identity. Impressed he was by the impact of American Democracy on the young nation of the United States. He became convinced that what the United States had was unique, superior, and especially so over socialism.

Unfortunately, those with different ideas has been allowed to get into office at the federal state and local levels of government, those who do not feel the same way that our Founding Fathers did about our nation or even how Alexis de Tocqueville felt about the United States. This is evident in so many ways but suffice it to say we now live in a nation that has turned its back on what made it great and unique in the first place and we are and will pay a very heavy price for that transgression.

I live in one of the many sanctuary cities in the country and I have witnessed first-hand a demographic and cultural change of the city. There are people coming here from all over the world with no intentions of assimilating into the country. A majority does not even speak English and have little to any knowledge about the founding of this country or what the Constitution is all about. Many of these people are bringing the social and political ideas of their nation here and those ideas are proliferating. So unlike Alexis de Tocqueville, they do not realize the superiority of the Constitution or a Republic form of Government verses the form of government they were accustomed.

The United States has lost much of its own identity and no longer does it stand out as unique and different from other nations. The United States has become a ghost of its erstwhile glory. The United States has lost the one thing that set it apart as great and distinct from other lesser nations, the United States has lost its identity, and a nation without an identity, is not a nation at all. http://www.prepsite.org/2014/10/to-destroy-usa.html
