Getting the Right Engine Control Module for Your Mercedes Made Easy

Your Merc, your pride and joy, has refused to budge. You figure it could have run out of gas, a notion negated by a full tank. So, maybe the engine control module (ECM) has given up the ghost.

The engine control module is basically your car’s brain. It tells your car how to run, much like your brain tells your body what to do. The standard circuit board that makes up the engine control module gives orders to your car so that it moves. If the ECM is dead, your car is dead.

Unlike the human brain though, the ECM also doubles up as the heart. Thus, it is both the heart and the brain of the car’s electrical system. Each ECM is matched right from the factory to the particular car it was installed into. As mentioned earlier, if the ECM is dead, so is the car.

Buying a replacement
