Growing plants, herbs and vegetables vertically is a very efficient way to grow lots of greens in a small amount of space. However, we can make gardening even easier, more convenient and less time-consuming with vertical hydroponics!

This is fun – there are even super easy hydroponics kits for this!

And don’t worry if you are a beginner to this style of gardening (like me). The sections of this “Hydroponic Tower” fit together like puzzle pieces, the watering system runs automatically and the plants don’t require any soil.

You don’t need to connect a bunch of pipe fittings together or install a pump or take care of a bunch of fish. In fact, this is the perfect way to get started growing plants without soil.

And guess what? If you have enough light inside, you can grow lettuce, vegetables, herbs and plants indoors year-round!

Not only is it simple to set up and use, space-efficient and extremely functional, it’s unique design makes it pleasing to look at. I’m not saying that it’s a piece of art… but I am definitely not shy to show it off in my home.

Check out how it works:

Foody Vertical Gardening Towers

But wait! There’s more than one type of Foody Vertical Garden. There are 3. You will most likely prefer one over the other, depending on your gardening needs. I’ll tell you what they’ve got so you don’t get confused and get the wrong one:

1. Their cheapest version, the “Foody 8 Tower” is actually not a hydroponics garden. It uses soil and is labeled as their “starter” system. Starter for what, I’m not sure, but it’s not hydroponics.

2. Their second model is a water-based planter. This the “Foody 8 Hydroponic Tower” It is designed for both indoor and outdoor use, but if you want to use it outdoors, this is your best choice. Why? because it better protects plant roots from temperature fluctuations.

3. The third option is their “Foody 12 Hydroponic Tower”, which is best for indoor use and allows for the most food/plant production. It has more growing space for plant roots as well as removable plant net pots for easier gardening.

Lettuces are known for growing extremely well in water-based gardens (and if you’ve ever tried hydroponic lettuce you know how good it tastes!), but there are plenty of other fruits and vegetables that you can grow in them.

This video gives a good idea of the different types of vegetables that can be grown in the Foody…

Bok Choy, Radish, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Broccoli, Kohlrabi, Spinach, Chinese Kale, Snap Peas, Cucumber, Raddicio and more…

If you’re like me, you were excited about this unit after reading just the first few paragraphs and watching the video. I mean, a vertical garden and hydroponics planter in one – plus instructions on how to get started and a fail-proof system? Sign me up!

But wait – there’s actually more. No I’m not kidding.

These water gardens automatically circulate the water for you, so the plants are constantly receiving nutrients and therefore grow bigger and faster (without you having to tend to them continuously).

For example, the Foody 8 and 12 Hydroponic systems include a magnetic drive pump, all piping and tubing, 4 growing pods, a base tank with two access lids, outdoor certified electronic timer, emitter, net pots, wicks, instructions and more. Once set up, your only job is monitoring salt and pH levels in the water.

Another cool feature is that the planters have anti-oxidant and UV reduction elements that reduce the growth of algae. If you’ve ever tried growing plants without soil (in clear plastic soda bottles, for example), you already know that algae growth can present a big problem, not only looking gross but stealing nutrients from the plants you’re trying to grow. But the Foody takes care of this for you.

If you also want a plant nutrient starter kit, indoor grow light or automatic drive system that rotates the planter for optimal light exposure (indoors), they are available separately.

The Foody 8 can hold 40 plants and the Foody 12 can hold 44 plants, so get ready to start eating!
