Remember that privately owned Colorado 14er that was up for sale that I told you about last week? If you’d been considering purchasing the plot of land that it was on, I’ve got some bad news. According to Gear Junkie, it was sold this week for a cool $105 million, taking it off the market for those who were saving their pennies.

Cielo Vista Ranch | Colorado Ranches for Sale from Mirr Ranch Group on Vimeo.

Formerly called Taylor Ranch, with a long and contentious history in the Valley, has most recently been owned by a group of Texas ranchers who renamed the ranch Cielo Vista, which translates as “View of Heaven.”. They bought the ranch in 2004 for $60 million from former Enron executive Lou Pai, who had purchased it for $20 million from the Taylor family in 1988.

In 1960, North Carolina lumberman Jack Taylor purchased the property, and closed off access to the local residents who appealed their long-standing right to use the land for wood gathering and grazing, a right the Colorado Supreme Court restored in 2002.

The 83,368-acre Cielo Vista property encompasses Culebra Peak, one of Colorado’s 53 mountain peaks with an elevation of at least 14,000 feet, and eighteen 13,000-foot peaks stretching across more than 20 miles of the Sangre de Cristo ridgeline.

Included in the sale is over 100 miles of trout streams containing the indigenous and increasingly uncommon Rio Grande cutthroat, a mature forest covering 80% of the property (Aspens, Spruce, Fir, Ponderosa, mixed conifer with upland shrubs), thousands of elk, a herd of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, three four-bedroom houses, one three-bedroom home, a two-bedroom cabin and several offices, bunkhouses, sheds and barns.
