Hideous Alien 'Gnome' Terrorizes Town

Both townspeople and police hide when darkness falls

The people of Santiago del Estero, Argentina walk in fear. Even the police nervously glance back over their shoulders when they walk their lonely night beats.

They know an otherworldly creature with the appearance of a gnarled gnome has invaded their tiny town. It’s seized them with a heart-pounding fist of icy, gut-wrenching terror.

Attack of the gnome

The first sightings of the bizarre alien gnome creature occurred during 2008 in a town more than 300 miles away. Since that time the creature has been sporadically spotted dozens of times .

Now in Santiago it holds people hostage in their homes. Brazenly crossing the streets with a bizarre sideways gait or sometimes sneaking up on unwary people and brutally attacking them.

It’s returned again and again…the thing seems more aggressive as time goes on.

Even police officers are not immune, several have seen the creature too. Pressed to do something about the gnome, or duende as it’s called in Spanish, the Santiago police chief issued a brief statement recommending people have a companion if they must go out after sunset and to avoid the gnome-alien.

Although the story may seem laughable to outsiders, real fear haunts the people of Santiago and now few people venture outdoors after nightfall, especially in the hours just before sunrise.

The police appear totally helpless.

Residents say the creature seems to hunt during the pre-dawn hours seeking victims to frighten or attack. When attacks occur, the angry alien gnome is reported to “have an attitude.”

According to the Nuevo Diario de Santiago del Estero, a local newspaper, people claim the frightening thing recently stalked a child, attacked a man riding his bike, and terrified a group of women.

Many describe the alien gnome as having abnormally large, pointed ears and wearing a very big, pointed hat.

Police reports reveal that dozens of people have been attacked by the gnome. It knocks them off bikes, and then mercilessly kicks, scratches and punches.

A source told the British newspaper The Sun he was attacked by the gnome. He described the gnome-alien as a tiny man with “big, pointed ears” wearing an “enormous hat.”

According to the victim’s story, the diminutive alien viciously pushed him off his bike knocking him to the ground. Attempting to escape the attack, the gnome blocked his path and beat the hapless bike rider into a state of near unconsciousness.

Gnomes seen around the world

Paranormal sightings like these are not limited to Argentina.

Strange imps, dwarves and gnomes are seen in Mexico, the American Southwest, and across Europe. Such sightings have happened for hundreds of years.

Texas had a famous sighting of a creature that fit the description of the Santiago gnome exactly. In 1913 a cattle rancher reported seeing a “little man wearing a hat reminiscent of a Mexican hat” in Farmersville, Texas.

The alien gnomes may be interdimensional, slipping from another reality into our world. Some researchers suspect there’s a parallel Earth filled with these things.

“Gnomes are small human-like creatures typically depicted with white beards, pale skin, rosy cheeks, and pointy hats. They are said to be about two feet tall, be exceptionally strong, have excellent vision, and live in trees or underground areas specifically around vegetation. In folktales it was said that gnomes guarded treasures.

“In different countries gnomes are called different things—in Argentina, they’re known as duendes, in Germany they’re known as Erdmanleins, in Sweden they’re called Nisse, in Hungary they’re called Mano, and in Brittany they’re called Nains. And although gnome sightings have occurred in places throughout Europe, the country of Argentina seems to have a concentration of sightings in recent times.” [Source]

Argentine man claims to have captured a gnome

A San Juan province, Argentina native, thirty-one year old Ariel Fernandez, is the proudest man in his town. He boasts that he caught a gnome and has it locked in a cage to prove it.

Photos of the alleged gnome in the cage were snapped with a cell phone and published in the regional journal Diario de Cuyo.

Authorities consulted about the alleged capture expressed doubt.

While some people swore they saw it, a mother of three children who lives near Fernandez told a newsman, “It’s all lies, it is just a doll. Nobody can catch a gnome; they cannot be caught because the devil helps them.“

According to the report in The Sun:

“Jose Alvarez—who filmed the gnome—told the national newspaper El Tribuno that they caught the creature lurking about in their hometown of General Guemes, in the province of Salta, Argentina.

“He said: ‘We were chatting about our last fishing trip. It was one in the morning.

“‘I began to film a bit with my mobile phone while the others were chatting and joking.

“‘Suddenly we heard something—a weird noise as if someone was throwing stones.

“‘We looked to one side and saw that the grass was moving. To begin with we thought it was a dog but when we saw this gnome-like figure begin to emerge we were really afraid.’

“Jose added that other locals had come forward to say they had spotted the gnome.

“He said: ‘This is no joke. We are still afraid to go out—just like everyone else in the neighborhood now.

The Nuevo Diario de Santiago del Estero, a regional newspaper, at a loss to find anyone who might be an expert on a creature that resembles a gnome, sought the opinion of a local priest. Father Juan Cruz Fariña of the San Miguel Arcangel church told reporters that the hideous gnome might be “a product of magic.”

“The Church could attempt an exorcism in an effort to expel demons from the possessed body,” he offered. He admitted that the strange creature might be beyond comprehension and suggested “…everyone take matters calmly and above all, to have faith in God. There is an explanation to all phenomena.”
