Man charged with assaulting his wife, tells police a ghost did it

Michael F. West, 41, from Wisconsin, was charged this week with strangulation, battery, disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer, the Oshkosh Northwestern reported.

Fond du Lac [map] police were called to the home and found a woman bleeding and crying for help. Police said the woman explained that her husband had punched and strangled her during an argument over finances.

Mr. West told police a different story. He told police that his wife had sustained her injuries in a fall.

When asked to elaborate, West responded that “a ghost did it.”

West seemed to be intoxicated when he made the comment, according to police reports.

West is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on $1,000 bail. He was ordered to stay sober while the case is pending.
