‘Vatican Exorcist’ Father Amorth Relates a Story About 2 Possessed Men Encountering Pope Benedict XVI

Originally posted at Dateline Zero

In a new book, Father Gabriele Amorth tells about 2 possessed men who were acting out during a Wednesday general audience with Pope Benedict XVI. When the Pope blessed them, the pair reacted dramatically.

This story was published in Italian in Panorama Magazine and Vatican Insider; and it comes from a chapter on the Pope in Father Amorth’s upcoming book ‘The Last Exorcist: My Battle Against Satan.’

It’s a morning in May of 2009. Joseph Ratzinger has been Pope for four years; and has spoken repeatedly of Satan. I understand that for him the devil is a spirit that exists and acts to fight against the Church, and against him. Otherwise you do not explain statements like this:

“To those who continue to sin without showing any form of repentance is the prospect of eternal damnation, and Hell. This is why attachment to sin can lead to the failure of our existence. It is a tragic fate for those who live in sin without invoking God. Only God’s forgiveness can give us the strength to resist evil and sin no more.”

“Jesus came to tell us that wants us all to be Heaven; and to tell us that Hell, about which little is said in our time, exists and is eternal for those who close their hearts to his love.”

It’s hot in the Piazza San Pietro. Spring has now come forward. The sun beats down on the square where a crowd of faithful are waiting for the Pope’s Wednesday audience. The faithful came from all over the world. From the bottom of the square comes a group of four people. Two women and two young men.

The women are two of my assistants. They aid me during exorcisms, pray for me and the possessed, and assist them as much as possible. The two young men have been on a long and difficult path of liberation. No one knows. All that is known is that the two men will attend the audience, and the two women will “escort” them to the Pope.

That Wednesday the two women decided to bring the men to hear of the Pope because they think might benefit from it. It is no secret that many gestures and words of the Pope enrages Satan. It is no secret that even the mere presence of the Pope somehow aids in the possessed.

The four are close to the barricade near to where Benedict XVI would soon speak. The Swiss Guards stop them. Do not have tickets? Do not go any further.

The two women insist. It is important for them to succeed in bringing the two men as close as possible to the Pope. Swiss guards do not allow exceptions, and order them to leave.

One of two women pretend to be sick. The act gets a result! The four are accommodated over the railing in one of the spaces reserved for disabled people.

“You see, John and Mark?” asked the two women. “We did it. The Pope will arrive soon and we are here close to him.”

The men do not speak. They are strangely silent. It is as if those who have them (they are two different demons) are beginning to understand who will soon be arriving in the square.

From near the door next to the Vatican basilica comes a white jeep. There are three men in the vehicle: the driver, the Pope standing, and sitting at his side is his private secretary Monsignor Georg Gänswein.

The two women turn to John and Mark, and instinctively support them with their arms. The two, in fact, begin to have strange behavior. John shakes and taps his teeth. The two women see that someone is beginning to act in the body of John and Mark. Someone who with every passing minute acts more and more agitated.

“John, you keep control of yourself,” says one woman. “Stay in control, John. Do not get overwhelmed. Stay in control.”

The other woman says the same words to Mark.

John does not seem to listen to the words of the woman. And then, suddenly, he turns around and speaks slowly in a voice that seems to come from some unknown world: “I’m not John.”

The woman does not say anything. She knows that only an exorcist should speak to a devil. If anyone else attempted to speak to a devil, it would be very risky. So she remains silent, and merely supports the body of John — now completely in the hands of the devil.

The jeep tours throughout the square. The two ladies genuflect to the ground. The men bang their heads on the ground. The Swiss Guards will observe but not intervene. Are they accustomed to such scenes? Maybe so. Perhaps at other times have seen the reactions of the possessed before the Pope’s jeep makes a long journey.

Then the jeep comes the top of the square, a few meters from the door of the Vatican basilica. The Pope gets out and greets the people placed in the front rows. John and Mark, together, begin to howl. They lie on the floor howling loudly.

“Holiness, holiness, we are here,” shouts one of the two women, trying to attract Pope’s attention.

Benedict XVI turns but does not come close. He sees the two women and sees the two young men on the ground screaming, drooling, shaking, and cursing in rage. He sees the look of hatred of the two men.

The Pope does not move. He watches from a distance, looking directly at the them. And then he raises one arm and blesses the four.

For the possessed pair, the shock is furious. They fall back three feet, and are slammed to the ground. They do not scream anymore. But they cry, cry, cry. Cry for the whole crowd to hear. And then when the Pope goes, they are themselves. The two return themselves. And they do not remember anything.

Benedict XVI is feared by Satan. His Masses, his blessings, his words are as powerful exorcisms. I do not think that Benedict XVI performs exorcisms. Or at least, I’m not aware that he does. However, I think that all of his pontificate is a major exorcism against Satan. Effective. Powerful.

Father Amorth later adds: “Satan has long feared the election of Ratzinger to the throne of Peter. Because he saw in Ratzinger a continuation of the great battle against that had already been waged for twenty-six and a half years by Pope John Paul II.”
