Interview with Mack Maloney

1. What was your prime motivation in creating your new book “Beyond Area 51″ knowledge wise to impart to the reader?

Well, the prime motivation was I had a follow-up contract to fulfill after “UFOs in Wartime” came out. I wanted to do a book that wasn’t about the same old UFO things, if you know what I mean. Area 51 has been done to death, at least in the area of non-fiction. So I thought, maybe a book about Area 51 that really wasn’t about Area 51. I had spoken to someone a long time ago who’d been to Area 51 at least twice. I’d asked him if there were other places in the desert or anywhere that might be called “Area 52,” Area 53,” and so on. Secret places. He said, Of course, there are. So this book is about trying to find where those places might be.

2. I live in Florida and I was curious if you could tell us the story about Homestead Air Force base in Miami?

It was a story I’d heard several times over the years: that one night Richard Nixon showed Jackie Gleason the remains of a UFO and its deceased occupants. Supposedly this happened at Homestead AFB just south of Miami. I didn’t believe it at first because I couldn’t believe Nixon and Gleason could be friends — they were two exactly opposite people. Plus it just sounded too fantastic. But when we looked into it, it turns out there are a few threads of evidence that bring it closer to being a real event. One is that Gleason divorced his wife when she told a magazine about what happened to him. Nixon and Gleason were golfing buddies and Gleason was such a UFO nut his house in New York was shaped like a flying saucer. So maybe there’s some “there” there.

3. Could you tell us what Russian’s Kaspustin Yar is exactly?

Kapustin Yar is a Russian base that’s a combination of Cape Canaveral and Area 51. The Russians have been using it since the early 1950s to do regular space launches, but they also hide a lot of unusual things there, like nuclear weapons, and, some are convinced, about a half dozen crashed UFOs.

4. Would you tell us some information about extraterrestrial experimentation on animals?

Two chapters in the book, one about the San Luis Valley in Colorado and the other about Dulce Mountain, deal a bit in animal mutilations. Whether they are the work of ETs or not, I don’t think anyone really knows. But there are so many documented cases of strange things being done to animals in the American Southwest over the years it’s really alarming.

5. What sort of stories do you have regarding UFOs and road rage on the highways?

There’s a place in south-central Australia called the Nullarbor Plain. We deal with it extensively in one chapter. There’s nothing there — just desert with a highway running through it. Yet so many motorists have been attacked by UFOs on this highway, the government put up a sign warning people that encountering a UFO could be dangerous. I’m mean, wtf? Can you imagine if something like that was happening on the New York Thruway? And how can anyone anywhere not believe that some kind of government organization — Australian or American — hasn’t looked into what’s happening down there?

6. What can you tell us about Saddam’s area 51 from the past when he was alive?

During the writing of “UFOs in Wartime,” we can upon information that Saddam had his own Area 51 and kept pieces of a crashed UFO there. In “Beyond Area 51″ we go into it a little deeper with information that one of the first places the US bombed in the 2003 Iraq Invasion was this valley where Saddam’s Area 51 was located. And they kept bombing it throughout the war. Some people even believe the WMD we were after was really WMD from a reverse engineered UFO and it was kept at this place. We didn’t find any nukes or chemical bombs or biological weapons in Iraq. So what were we looking for?

7. Would you share a story from the book with us that you find drawn to heavily that you think our readers might enjoy?

By far the most unusual place we talk about is the M-Triangle in Russia. People call it “Heaven on Earth” — and they might be right. It’s a heavy forested piece of land near the Ural Mountains in Russia and very strange things happen there all the time. UFOs, alien encounters, strange music, strange sounds, glowing orbs, Bigfoot, on and on. But also, people who spend time there come out changed, and usually for the good. People become smarter. Calmer. Happier. Some have had serious diseases cured just by being there. The story that ends that chapter is just incredible. I won’t ruin it for you, but for anyone who’s ever wondered “Is God real?” — and I’m sure all of us have wondered that at some point — after you read this chapter, you might not ask that question again. And believe me, I’m not a religious “nut.” Far from it. But something very profound seems to be happening inside the M-Triangle.

8. What are you up to next book wise or projects wise and also any links you’d like to share with us?

Just by coincidence I have another Area 51-related book that’s just come out as well. It’s called “Attack on Area 51.” It’s a novella I wrote as a continuation of my Wingman jet fighter series which sold more than a million books back in the 1990s. Since I stopped doing Wingman, people have been writing me almost daily asking when we were starting up the series again. Just recently we cleared some contractual things with the old publisher and now all 16 original books, plus this new novella, are out as ebooks and will be available as real books starting in September. It was really a case of good timing. I had so much material lying around after writing “Beyond Area 51″ that when the new publisher asked me to write this new Wingman adventure, I was able to wrap it around a fictional Battle at Area 51. There’s a lot of jet fighters, UFOs, S4, bad guys, gorgeous females and so on. A typical Wingman book. It’s a $2 download at Amazon or people can go to www.mackmaloney.com  It’s not often you can do two completely different books by using the same research material. Luck of the Irish, I guess.
