On his chest was an insignia of white dots, and on his head a white cap that looked nickel-plated, from a wide belt hung a small box with a little antenna. He greeted Hamburgo in slightly accented Spanish, introducing himself as “Wirkle, Chief of the Guard,” and answered Benito’s questions, anticipating them before the witness actually phrased them. He said he was from a very distant “region” and that they were an advanced race, concerned over the misuse of atomic energy. When he left he refused to shake hands, explaining that contact with him would aggravate Benito’s cardiac condition.
