Who is whispering in our ears? Who is the Father of lies? Who is it that tells us we won’t amount to anything, or keeps replaying the same scenes in our heads over and over again? Who is the one who pricks old wounds and plants the root of bitterness there? Who is he who speaks lies to us and why do we listen to him?
It is so important for all of us to discern the Fallen Ones voice. To know what it sounds like and when we hear it immediately take our swords, the word of God, and cut it asunder!
The evil one will lie to us over and over again, that is who he is and just like the character in The Lord of the Rings, Grima Wormtongue, he seeks to have us believe what he is saying and eventually rule over us. I realize for some The Lord of the Rings is controversial and I understand why, however the scene with Grima Wormtongue is a clear illustration of what the enemy of our souls would like to do to each of us; have us believe a lie and then control us.
As the scripture says, when he lies, he speaks his native tongue, for he is the father of lies. Let us imagine that a thought comes into our heads about someone we don’t like, because they have hurt us in some way. We may think we are justified in disliking them. At this point we’ve bit the hook! The lie is set and we are believing it. What we need to do is pray for this person, for blessings in their life and believe in the good. We never give out evil for evil, always blessings. We bless instead of curse. Jesus admonishes us, to pray for those who spitefully use us! This is a command and something we must practice. It’s not a personal choice.
In closing the Bun. The words of Jesus are true. He is warning us of what each of us will face while on earth. The Fallen one will whisper his lies to us and when he does we must cut them down immediately, with the word of God, our two edge sword!
