Nothing is going to happened. Odd that Professor Hawking is issuing a warning like this. Unfortunately, there is only one way to find out. It’s a Schrodinger’s Cat-type situation. We won’t know, until we open the box. Hope for the best, because if Professor Hawking’s right, there’s no preparing for the worst.

Interesting name, the “god” particle. If they find it, a lone particle made entirely of matter and NOT made of energy as is everything else, the “god” particle will support the contention we are NOT living in a simulation — that our universe is real. In essence, it will refute the scientifically supported idea we are both as “real” and imaginary as a computer video game, that we are merely God’s dream.

I think it’s simpler than that.
I used to joke that our universe was just a part of a science experiment, that was left to evolve on it’s own. Perhaps we are just at a point in our existence, where we are capable of the same experiment that created our universe. Think of it as pointing a video camera at the screen to which the camera feeds.
