Politics, Prophecy & the Supernatural Sunday Bun

I have a friend whose name is David.  I’ve known him for about 35 years.  We used to hang out before I became a Christian and David, along with Wayne—whom I dedicated The Cosmic Chess Match too—acted as a life-line for me in the early days of leaving the kingdom of darkness and being brought into the Light of the Lord’s kingdom.

David is now 61 and he has Prostate Cancer.  He went through a round of radiation treatment and the doc’s thought they got it in time.  Turns out the doc’s were wrong and the cancer has come back with a vengeance.

David can no longer walk and is in the hospital.

I spoke to him yesterday on the phone and I could tell they had given him drugs to help with the pain…. not a good sign.

I don’t know how much longer he has…..

I was troubled by the news and in fact became depressed over it.  David made it very clear that he’s not afraid of dying, as he knows the Lord, but is very concerned for his wife, and who can blame him.

Most of us have had a David, at some point, in our lives.  We’ve prayed and prayed and yet the disease lingers and slowly ravages the body and then, our loved one slips away and we feel the finality of deaths’ sting.  This can test our faith….

When I read the story of Lazarus—which is below—I am encouraged by the fact that Lazarus was already dead three days when Yeshua/Jesus arrived on the scene.  The shortest sentence in the Bible is recorded in the chapter; Jesus wept.

I would posit Jesus weeps because of the condition of the human race at this point, that every man and women is appointed to die at some point.  Our hope is that there is one greater than death, and, in fact, we are told that when He returns he will put away death.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

When I read this passage it gives me hope and like Paul says:

…that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.… Romans 8

All of us wait for the Return of the King.  We all look forward to the Rider on the White Horse as when He returns He will put away death and what has been the end of men and women since the dawn of creation will cease to have dominion over us.

In the meantime please keep David in your prayers.

The Story of Lazarus:

John 11 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

Now a certain man was sick named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.  (It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

Therefore his sisters sent unto Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom Thou lovest is sick.”  When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.”

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. When He heard therefore that Lazarus was sick, He stayed two days still in the same place where He was. Then after that He said to His disciples, “Let us go into Judea again.”

His disciples said unto Him, “Master, the Jews of late sought to stone Thee, and goest Thou thither again?”

Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth because there is no light in him.”

These things said He, and after that He said unto them, “Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awaken him out of sleep.”

Then said His disciples, “Lord, if he sleep he shall do well.”

However Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He had spoken of the taking of rest in sleep.

Then Jesus said unto them plainly, “Lazarus is dead.

And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent that ye may believe. Nevertheless let us go unto him.”

Then Thomas, who was called Didymus, said unto his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.”

Then when Jesus came, He found that he had lain in the grave four days already.  Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about two miles away, and many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary to comfort them concerning their brother. Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him; but Mary sat still in the house.  Then Martha said unto Jesus, “Lord, if Thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.  But I know that even now, whatsoever Thou wilt ask of God, God will give it Thee.”

Jesus said unto her, “Thy brother shall rise again.”

Martha said unto Him, “I know that he shall rise again at the resurrection on the Last Day.”

Jesus said unto her, “I am the resurrection and the Life. He that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?”

She said unto Him, “Yea, Lord, I believe that Thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who should come into the world.”

And when she had so said, she went her way and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, “The Master has come, and calleth for thee.”

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came unto Him.

Now Jesus had not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met Him.

The Jews then, who were with her in the house and comforting her, when they saw that Mary rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, “She goeth unto the grave to weep there.”

Then when Mary had come where Jesus was and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying unto Him, “Lord, if Thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.”

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping who came with her, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled,

and said, “Where have ye laid him?” They said unto Him, “Lord, come and see.”

Jesus wept.

Then said the Jews, “Behold, how he loved him!”

And some of them said, “Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?”

Jesus therefore again, groaning in Himself, came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it.

Jesus said, “Take ye away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him that was dead, said unto Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he hath been dead four days.”

Jesus said unto her, “Said I not unto thee that if thou would believe, thou should see the glory of God?”

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard Me.

And I knew that Thou hearest Me always, but because of the people who stand by I said it, that they may believe that Thou hast sent Me.”

And when He thus had spoken, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, “Loose him, and let him go.”
