Oklahoma! Where The Ground Starts Shaking Down The Plain

OKLAHOMA!
WHERE THE GROUND STARTS SHAKING DOWN THE PLAIN

There are times that I sit on a story because I believe it fits the definition of “Doom Porn.” While I have been accused at times of reporting all doom all the time, the truth is a lot of what I have to do is in response to mainstream doom reports; especially those press releases being put out by the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Energy, Centers for Disease Control, The U.S. Geological Survey and all of the climate scares and magnetic shifts that we are told are going to kill us all, provided by Climate Science groups and NASA.

The “doom porn” phenomenon is essentially a mechanism that not only sells survival food and bug out bags but it is also used as a political population control point.

A while ago, I did a show that introduced people to the Report from Iron Mountain, where we discussed that a government needs a bogeyman so we will put up with illegal aliens, excessive force of policy, and coercive carbon tax laws.

It seems to be common that with any predictive programming for any disaster, authorities will gladly over-project death tolls, create unnecessary panic and avoid the possibility of reporting resilience outcomes and complexity risks with regard to “dangers” that plague the planet.

It is difficult to snap the rhetoric about projected earth catastrophes because so many people are bracing themselves for the inevitable as authorities are telling people they may face death because the temperature of the planet is changing or that certain areas of the planet are due for a major earthquake.

Earthquakes are the most disastrous of all natural calamities which catches life and property in the shortest possible time. It appears that recent earthquakes reported in the mainstream media have shown their devastating natures.

We are being told many of the quakes that have happened have been “biblical” in scope indicating they are of an apocalyptic or Old Testament nature.

In 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake in Japan may have shortened the length of each Earth day and shifted its axis. In comparison, following the 2010 magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile, it was estimated the Chile quake should have shortened the length of day by about 1.26 microseconds and shifted Earth’s figure axis by about 8 centimeters or 3 inches.

A similar calculation performed after the 2004 magnitude 9.1 Sumatran earthquake revealed it should have shortened the length of day by 6.8 microseconds and shifted Earth’s figure axis by about 7 centimeters, or 2.76 inches. How an individual earthquake affects Earth’s rotation depends on its magnitude, location and the details of how the fault slipped.

The seismic hazard is a natural phenomenon and is related to identifiable geographic areas. However, seismic risk is related to human activities; and the risk exists only when something of human value is exposed to an earthquake. Earthquake as a hazard is beyond human control, therefore only way to reduce the risk is increasing the capacity of potential victims to cope with the impact of potential earthquake.

We are told, it is all about being prepared.

However, one cannot understand the psychological impact “earthquake scare stories” have on those who live in what are called earthquake prone areas.

In the immediate and expedient present, we are ever vigilant for that day of doom and our awareness is limited by what is being said by NASA, USGS, CDC or a few paid scientists that decide to explain everything they do not wish to exclude for the sake of comfort and their alleged reputation.

Here we see people who constantly are crossing off the days of the calendar and trying to create a doom probability and continually use it to make you more aware of your mortality. Right or wrong, it is still fascinating to see the theories take shape.

People are constantly asking me about what I am thinking regarding an earthquake prediction that was made in New Yorker magazine back in July.

“The Really Big One,” by Kathryn Schulz, is a real slice of doom porn and was published in The New Yorker’s website and in the July 20th print issue. The story reported that soon there will be a massive earthquake which will cripple the Pacific Northwest.

It was a story that raced into the mainstream network news cycle so quickly that Fox News Anchor, Shepherd Smith said that if he lived in the Pacific Northwest, he would consider moving. Then, he accentuated his statements with a pregnant pause and then said with a grim face, “Seriously.”

It leaves little to the imagination about the consequences of “a full-margin rupture” of the Cascadia Subduction Zone .

The Cascadia Subduction zone runs from Cape Mendocino, California, to Vancouver Island, Canada. Those who live anywhere in that region and west of the Cascade Mountains are at risk – but how much risk and what kind varies considerably, based on where exactly you live in relationship to the fault line, how susceptible your area is to liquefaction and landslides, what kind of structure you’re in when the quake occurs, and your local seismic codes.

The New Yorker article paints a grim picture of what the Big One will do in the Pacific Northwest.

“By the time the shaking has ceased and the tsunami has receded, the region will be unrecognizable. … FEMA projects that nearly thirteen thousand people will die in the Cascadia earthquake and tsunami. Another twenty-seven thousand will be injured, and the agency expects that it will need to provide shelter for a million displaced people, and food and water for another two and a half million.”

Ever since July, I have visited the pacific coast, made inquiries as to how safe the people feel and have come up with the final conclusion that while people have been spooked, they are already being philosophical about their own deaths, usually expressing the idea that we all have to go sometime.

I know that doesn’t give any comfort or answers to those who are worrying, but here is some truth.

There is not one single answer and there is no great amount of comfort with any answer.

Many things that are being said, written and predicted could either be the right answer or it could all be simple, neat, and wrong.

Isn’t that confusing?

Of course, it is and it is meant to be. The reason is that like it or not, the earth is always in the cross-hairs of an extinction level event. It is one big cosmic snow globe of death that is destined for a good shaking every now and again. No one knows when it will happen and if you keep saying that the earth faces a huge threat of extinction, then you can always say, “I told you so” when the unthinkable happens.

Thirty Five years ago, Mount St. Helens erupted. It was a devastating event that hit the Pacific Northwest. Now Geologists have discovered the magma chamber beneath Mount St. Helens is fed by a much larger chamber deeper below the Earth’s crust. They said earthquake swarms around the volcano are a sign of magma pumping from the lower reservoir into the upper one, and this could reveal clues about an impending eruption.

On the surface, it may seem shocking that deep magma bodies in the crust might feed St. Helens and its close neighbors, but that is exactly what geologists are expecting, and while an eruption is always in the cards for an active volcano you won’t have to bring in the tomatoes anytime soon.

I think I am hearing some knocking on wood by geologists.

This does not stop the mainstream from reporting oddities from time to time and projecting some of the worst case scenarios with regard to both climate and geographical changes.

Last month, it was reported that a giant crack had opened up in the ground in central Wyoming. It started to open at the end of September, and is still going. Fears that the earth was swallowing itself persisted in social media and even mainstream media.

Reports of groundwater causing the rock to slide had a bit of a calming effect and so did reports of the remote location being a danger to cows and not humans or homes.

It is ground water that is causing weakness in an unstable hillside.

Another example of an unstable hillside and groundwater is a video that is making the rounds on the internet. The video was shot in Apple River, Nova Scotia and shows what appears to be the ground breathing.

People all over the internet were saying that event was supernatural while armchair investigators claimed it was a CGI trick. The truth is that water saturation in the soil was causing the trees to move while the wind was blowing and that the roots were lifting the saturated ground up giving the appearance that the ground was breathing.

Brian Nuttall the man who shot the footage was lucky he didn’t get caught in a land slide.

Nuttal reported on his You Tube channel:

“…the larger trees are doomed to blow down but are currently spared, the smaller trees around them help hold each other up, as the wind pushes the trees into one another. The punishing prevailing winds have taken their toll on the side hill, the roots have loosened and the mossy ground from the once shaded forest floor are giving way, soon to be toppled over.”

Many comments about the footage were attributing the anomaly to fracking. However, there were no fracking operations in the area.

The U.S. geological Survey reported last year that many of the earthquakes now being felt in Arkansas, Texas, Ohio, Colorado and Oklahoma can be attributed to human activity; in other words, waste water injection due to fracking operations. The USGS admitted that the magnitude 5.7 earthquake striking Prague, Oklahoma in 2011 was unintentionally human-induced.

Injection wells are considered by some to be the most environmentally sound method of disposing of waste-water which is a byproduct of both hydrofracking and conventional oil production because they use the earth itself to both filter and contain the pollution.

The 5.7 magnitude quake in Prague followed an injection of waste-water approximately 650 feet away from the Wilzetta fault zone, a complex fault system about 124 miles in length. All three earthquakes exhibited a slip-strike motion, and did so at three different locations, indicating that three separate areas of the fault zone were activated.

Researchers believe the increased pressure required to inject the water into areas previously occupied by oil caused the fault to “jump.”

This raises the question: Is hydrofracking worth the risk of causing faults to activate creating moderate earthquakes in Oklahoma?

We put in a call to Matt Skinner, spokesman for the Oklahoma Corporation Commission about the increase of earthquake swarms in the region. He told us he was upset by being misquoted as saying that Oklahoma is now the No. 1 earthquake area in the world, referring to a headline that was on the Drudge Report.

He told us that he actually said that they are the number 1 earthquake capital in the lower 48 states. He told us that everyone knows that Alaska had more quakes than any other state.

He told Ground Zero that now Earthquake swarms are a familiar thing and they had a total of 15 or so swarms of earthquakes in Medford, Oklahoma since November 7th.

These Earthquakes are concentrated in one area and usually occur when waste water is pumped from one geographical area to another. There is concern about water being injected into the basement rock.

In a careful bit on newspeak and semantics, Ground Zero was told that it is not the fracking that causes the quakes – it is the waste water injection causing the quakes. It is brine water coming out of the ground and then forced back into the ground causing faults to shift.

The water contains arsenic and lead, so you can’t just throw the waste water on the surface – you need to force it back in. According to Skinner and another spokesman for the Oklahoma Geological Survey named Jeremy Boak, told Ground Zero that this is done to protect the groundwater, it’s also protecting underground drinking water supplies.

Oklahoma residents are still worried about the operations triggering a major earthquake, one that might do property damage or create loss of life. Induced seismicity and the problems that come with it are still relatively new.

More than 500 wells have undergone changes and Jeremy Boak tells us that this has reduced seismic activity.

However, the question again is whether or not it is worth the risk?

Fracking is relatively new and hi-tech – and even experts armed with cutting-edge instruments are only just beginning to get their heads around some of the risks involved. No one really knows exactly what it will mean in the medium to long-term. It’s not just that there aren’t enough informed opinions – there isn’t enough conclusive research anywhere in the world to enable anyone to make truly informed decisions on fracking and its risks.

If it is any consolation maybe we should take heed the message from science fiction author, Michael Crichton :

“Earthquakes are continuous, a million and a half of them every year, or three every minute. A Richter 5 quake every six hours, a major quake every 3 weeks. A super destructive quake every 8 months.”

The doomsayers crying earthquake will be right every 8 months or so… and when the big one hits, science will say that it was right on schedule.
