Trump Up The Silence Make America Hate Again

TRUMP UP THE SILENCE
MAKE AMERICA HATE AGAIN

As many of you know, I am re-reading the book, 1984. Whenever I get a moment, I sit back in my bed and thumb through it and it becomes a synchronistic game as passages seem to coincide with current events.

I know that Orwell was satirizing communism and I am sure he never thought he would become a latter day prophet.

I guess he knew a little something about human nature and how people eventually become enemies unto themselves and that all it takes is a fascist authority figure to legislate their slavery, and all he has to do is establish a government that can exploit hatred and victimization.

George Orwell devised the word ‘unperson’ to describe someone who had so offended official thought, he or she was vaporized — not just liquidated but wiped from the record for eternity.

In that way, the unperson couldn’t set a bad example. All memory of the impertinence would be forgotten.

Orwell was satirizing Stalin’s Russia, where such practices were all too common. When a Politburo member called Nikolai Yezhov, People’s Commissar for Water Transport, fell out of favor with Joseph Stalin in 1940, he was not just killed.

A photograph of him beside Stalin in happier days was doctored to remove all trace of him.

It was as though he had never existed. And he was not the only one. We know the legacy of Stalin and his short fuse when it came to uncomfortable speech or speech that ridiculed his rule in communist Russia.

We are now in the middle of the same situation. The fact that fiction can leap from a book about gradualist despotism into our reality is frightening and should be seen as a warning to everyone about where our country is heading, ideologically.

It seems the new American strategy is that if we find someone who says anything we are uncomfortable with, the best thing for them is to be beaten, or exploited, censured, censored, arrested and eventually silenced.

It appears far easier for Americans to dismiss someone than to engage them and challenge their position.

I believe it needs to pointed out there is most definitely a conspiracy to change the ideology of America and its social values. This is being done to guarantee a blow back of those individuals that are ready to radicalize and create a reason for the new American police state.

Back in October, Michael Goodwin offered an editorial in the New York Post saying that while America has survived ideological crises before he is seeing that the situation in America is going to get worse before it gets any better.

Goodwin claims that he was inspired to write about our social condition after reading the book, “Shattered Consensus” by author James Piereson.

Piereson persuasively makes the case there is an inevitable “revolution” coming because our politics, culture, education, economics and even philanthropy are so polarized that the country can no longer resolve its differences.

Piereson explains the alienation arising from the sense that something important in American life is ending, but nothing better has emerged to replace it. The impact is not restricted to American attitudes. Growing global conflict is related to America’s failure to agree on how we should govern ourselves and relate to the world.

I really don’t think it takes a sociopolitical analyst to predict the endgame and what we are up against.

We will either see the political contingency both Republican and Democrat disintegrate for lack of fundamental agreement or we will see a point where disagreements, cultural upheaval and civil clashes will be addressed in a limited civil war between the people, the government and those who are chosen to enforce order.

If you are worried about one administration suspending an election in order to deal with matters of war and combatants in our back yard – then all that is needed is continuance of the negation of the rule of law, continued intolerance, hate, and the silencing of those who speak their minds.

Americans are not realizing that gradually, they are beginning to hate many things that are happening around them.

An aggravation strategy of tension has many Americans losing their cool. It is becoming so pervasive, there are some theorizing that this is an intention psychological operation to harden the resolve of those wishing to implement the police state.

I have been in a situation where I am having within my core a schism and crisis of thought regarding Donald Trump. It appears whenever I point out the hypocrisy and self-delusion of Americans with regard to his pompous and frank statements.

I get a barrage of e-mails asking if I support him, or, others say that I have somehow changed my attitude when I once said I did not support him. Now, some people think I’m supporting him again and lets be quite clear on the matter – I still don’t support or otherwise endorse Donald Trump.

However, the hypocrisy and feigned indignation that I am seeing with what Trumps says is a product of selective hearing and media manipulation.

The whole process of higher ground moralizing is becoming an embarrassment and is just as clownish as Trump himself. He is saying he wants to make America great again and in the process, he causing a majority of Americans to hate again.

Those who position themselves as so-called orthodox liberals and orthodox conservatives are bemoaning Trump every time he opens his mouth.

Trump’s proposal that all travel by Muslims into this country must be ended – “until we find out what the heck is going on” has been said to be xenophobic, racist, bigoted, bad for America and not very nice.

What Trump has done is engaged in uncomfortable speech and as Orwell wrote in 1984, is well on the way to becoming an “unperson” in this country.

In my home town of Portland, Oregon, a unanimous albeit symbolic decision was handed down by the city council. They all voted unanimously to censure Donald Trump.

City Councilors passed a resolution denouncing his recent comments about Muslims, basically saying the city will not tolerate his controversial comments.

The resolution reads, “Donald Trump has recently used the media as a means of spouting vitriolic and divisive comments that have crossed the line into fear-mongering and racism.”

In censuring Trump, the resolution also hopes to show support for the local Muslim community. There are an estimated 10,000 Muslims living in the Portland-metro area.

Censure is the public reprimanding and rebuking of a public official for inappropriate conduct or in Trumps case, inappropriate speech. Censure has no basis in the Constitution, however, this particular censure appears to be a double-edged sword because he was not rebuked for behavior he was censured for his speech.

The spirit of the 1st amendment is being touched in a subtle way; it violated no 1st amendment rights. Trump was not arrested for his words or conduct, so it really does not violate the letter or the law.

It still appears to be a decision that may be treading towards a full-on censorship of Trump and in America, even uncomfortable speech is protected by the constitution.

I am sure these city councilors who see themselves as moral guardians and humanitarians feel they have sewed up a victory against Trump, but they simply have done nothing and their decision is yet another failed attempt at faux humanitarianism.

Congress is set to approve a bill with broad bipartisan backing that would deny visa-free travel to anyone who has been in Iraq or Syria in the past five years. Not only that, but the legislation would end visa-free travel from friendly nations like France and Belgium, where Muslims make up a significant minority of the population.

So now do we censure Congress? Do we censure both parties in Congress that are actually putting to action what Trump said, offhandedly?

This is completely messed up.

Even Rand Paul introduced legislation “suspending” entry into the US by visitors, students, and refugees, from countries with “significant jihadist movements.”

So where is the angry rebuking against Senator Paul?

Even the candidate with the dorky grin, Jeb Bush, tried to taunt Trump like the debate was on a school playground about his comments. Trump replied like a picked on school kid about not being able to speak. What he failed to do was point out that both Bush and Ted Cruz had called for accepting refugees from Syria only if they are Christian, thus, effectively banning Syrian refugees who are Muslim. The distinction between their Muslim-banning plan and Trump’s is really nonexistent.

During the Iranian hostage crisis, President Jimmy Carter issued a number of orders to put pressure on Iran. Among these, Iranians were banned from entering the United States unless they oppose the Shiite Islamist regime or had a medical emergency.

I am failing to see the anger and protests about what Jimmy Carter enacted upon.

It can be argued that Carter merely acted upon the banning of Iranian nationals and not condemn an entire religion, but of course there is no discourse here, no discussion of history and how decisions are made and courses of actions are undertaken that may not be popular in times of crisis.

In 1952, a law was written and it can be found under US Code 1182, inadmissible aliens.

It was passed by a Democrat-controlled Congress, House and Senate, and signed by President Harry S. Truman who also was a democrat. It reads:

“Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by president. Whenever the president finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the president may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non immigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”

So using the hubris and leaps of logic provided by these so-called higher ground humanitarians that have censured Trump, we can say what Truman did was bigoted, dumb, stupid, reckless, dangerous, unconstitutional, and should be erased from history, forever.

The trouble with that Orwellian move is, it is the law.

Yes, I know they say that the truth will set you free, but knowing the truth sets us back and contributes to a heated civil war we are all waiting to start.

All for the comments of one blow hard politician. America, look in the mirror – your image is distorted like the mirrors you see in a funhouse.

The joke is dangerous for all of us. The whole mess is dripping with hypocrisy and ignorance.

The puppet masters have been quite successful since the 9/11 attacks to keep Americans transfixed so they can continue to erode civil rights and open vital dialogue for statist, authoritarian propaganda and eventually, a newly planned state socialism.

Of course, harsh responses to cultural change and eventual disillusionment are where some of the power elite’s key victories lie.

It is also unfortunate whenever an honest American wants to talk about this disillusionment, they are often forced to shut up and are later labeled like a can of beans. The disillusionment is not just the product of, dare we say a, “right wing conspiracy,” it is most certainly the result of years of assumed persecution and being ignored by a government that has promised it is looking out for its citizenry.

The narrative that we are seeing and hearing about is full of lunacy, over-sensitivity, hatred, polarization.

Like it or not, it is going to get heated as the evidence continues to mount that we have chosen a path which seems to mimic what Stalin implemented and what Orwell warned us about.
