1. A Sphinx
Whether Christopher Columbus was the first who discovered America has been a subject of much debate. An ancient shipwreck containing a statue of sphinx was recovered just off the bahamas in 2014. Scientists are certain that the artifact is of Middle Eastern Origin and dates back nearly 2500 years. This suggests that other explorers may have already discovered the area- knowingly or not.
2. An Ancient Computer
This famous underwater treasure, known as the Antikythera mechanism, was discovered in 1900. What makes this discovery so enigmatic is the sophisticated mechanism that was deployed in making this mechanical device. Its purpose for having it manufactured is still unclear. Some believe it was meant to predict Solar and Lunar Eclipses, while others speculate that this was crafted for navigational purposes.
3. The Spy Ship
A Russian fishing trawler with no clear identification was discovered in 1988. Investigators believe that ship may have been a spying vessel, operating from Yemen, probably used by the soviets to listen in on radio transmissions during cold war. The electronic equipments discovered on board helps explain why that would be the case. The cause of the ship wreck is still unknown.
4. Roman Medicine
2000 years ago a Roman ship, Relitto Del Pozzino, had crashed off the coast of Tuscany 2000 years ago. Between the period of 1980s and 1990s, investigators searched through the wreck where all sorts of treasures like medicine chest inside of which vials and tin vessels containing pills was uncovered. Recently, scientists are closing in on a conclusion that the pills may have been used for the treatment of eyes.
5. Human Skulls
Numerous elongated human skulls were uncovered during an exploration of a flooded sinkhole in Southern Mexico. The remains had no clues to indicate the cause of death. Ritualistic sacrifice was first believed to be a probable cause but indicative signs were missing in the remains. It’s believed that the skulls had been elongated by a process of flattening during infancy. But the reason why this was done so by the Mayan Population is still unclear.
