Russia: Mysterious Blue Snow Falls on City of St. Petersberg (Video)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

If you think the frigid temperatures blasting parts of the United States this week are bad, imagine living in St. Petersburg, Russia, where the city was covered by unexplained blue snow!

The unsettling coating of azure raised concerns among residents that perhaps the snow had become colored by some kind of pollutant.

Particularly troubling is that a chemical research facility had recently been demolished in the city, leaving some to wonder if that event may have somehow been the source of the blue hue found in the snow.

The cause of the coloring has yet to be determined, but tests are currently being done on the snow to see what caused its odd appearance.

For the sake of the community, we really hope that there is no connection to the infamous ‘blue ice’ that occasionally falls from airplanes.

Could be Kerosene usually colorless but when in winter mix has oxidents added with normal petrol which is a mix used in most US jet engines I believe what they call a addative called diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DiEGME).(jp8 in winter)., Europes engines which are normally Trents on Airbus use Kerosene are more efficent and do not require oxidants. Kerosene can have a blue dye added to distinguish it from taxable grades and blue dye being the non taxable sort destined for domestic use, depending upon where the plane was fueled it could have had duty free fuel which it was meant to pay duty on and or an antifreeze winter mix and had an accidental fuel dump. seriously doubt anyone will be admitting to being the source anytime soon.

Agreed, kero is similar to Jet-A, which is the most common jet fuel, but more similar to diesel fuel.
However, I would suggest to simply taste the snow. No need to send out to a lab. I’m sure there is some brave soul who has already done so.
