United States Space Command Is Officially Opened…..

PENTAGON – The United States Space Command officially launches on Thursday with a White House ceremony hosted by President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Air Force Gen. John Raymond, commander of SPACECOM, are also expected to attend.

The U.S. military has not created a command since U.S. Cyber Command was established in 2009. SPACECOM is the military’s 11th combatant command, and each have either a geographic or functional mission for military operations.

The United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) is a unified combatant command of the United States Department of Defense.

It was originally created in 1985 to coordinate the use of outer space by the United States Armed Forces.^[1] The Commander in Chief of U.S. Space Command (CINCUSSPACECOM) also functioned as the Commander in Chief of the binational U.S.-Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command (CINCNORAD), and for the majority of time during USSPACECOM’s existence, was also as the Commander of Air Force Space Command.

In 2018, it was announced that U.S. Space Command would be reactivated as a Unified Combatant Command. It was re-activated on 29 August 2019. General John W. Raymond, USAF, is Commander, United States Space Command, and Commander, Air Force Space Command
