I’m so glad someone with a sharper intellect, a better attention span, and more free time has focused on this topic. It was always clear, I thought, that there was a connection between all the ancient myths, a progenitor myth that gave rise to all the others.

But the topic always seemed so big and esoteric, and it definitely wasn’t a topic that was going to help me pass my college classes (I couldn’t believe how chilly the reception was when I pitched the idea to some history dept faculty), so I just let it go. But I’d always hoped a better scholar than me would give the topic the serious, OPEN-MINDED, long-term look that is deserved. H

I have a question for mr. Mathieson, if he comes back to read these comments. What is the meaning or significance of various mythological characters being transformed into a tree? This seems to be an archetype in multiple traditions. Amy K.
