Dracula is a fascination for the public in whole. There is something about an elegant handsome man that can stare into a woman’s eyes and seduce her for his blood thirst. Dracula has invaded our minds, our thoughts with the extreme media coverage that this horror icon has achieved. Dracula can be seen on various television shows, numerous movies, thousands of books and comic books. Dracula has crossed over with fictional celebrities all over the world. How did this all begin?

Bram Stoker
It started off with an author named Bram Stoker. When Bram wrote his Dracula novel, little did he know that this creation he came up with, will live on forever. Bram selected a historical figure and that historical figure was Vlad III aka Dracula. Bram did some researching of Romanian history and with his findings, he had the perfect creature of the night, that being Dracula. When Bram wrote his novel, it was a collection of realistic, but fictional diary entries, telegrams, letters, ship’s logs and newspaper clippings. The reader of his Dracula novel felt the realism to the story. Can Dracula actually be real? When Bram’s novel came out, if they had such a thing as “going viral”, his novel definitely went viral all around the world. The world is now aware of this spectacular creation by Bram. Dracula was here to stay.

Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula
While Bram was studying Romanian history, he learned that Vlad III aka Vlad the Impaler was an important leader in Wallachian history and a national hero to his people of Romania. Vlad III would at times dine outside and while dining, his enemies were impaled on stakes already dead or slowly dying while Vlad feasted. Bram learning this, knew that his character Dracula had to have a real connection, and that real life connection is no other than Vlad III. Some history of Vlad III is that he was the second son of Vlad Dracul who was the ruler of Wallachia in 1436. Vlad gained a bad taste of the Ottoman Empire when the Ottoman Empire in 1442 took Vlad and his younger brother Radu as hostages to get their father to favor the Ottoman Empire. Hatred fell upon Vlad III when the Ottoman Empire killed Vlad III’s older brother Mircea and his father.

Countess Bathory
Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed was a noblewoman of Hungary. It is rumored that Bram took the story of Vlad III and combined it with the horrors that the Countess did in her country of Hungary. The Countess and four of her servants are rumored to have killed 300 virgin women. The Countess would bathe in virgin’s blood to maintain her youth and gain immortality. The killings occurred during 1590 and 1610. The Countess and her servants were arrested. After the trial the Countess was imprisoned for the rest of her life in the Castle of Csejte.

Danielle-Diva Borozan
I am fortunate to know a descendent of Dracula. The descendent I am referring to is spiritual advisor and podcast host Danielle-Diva Borozan. Danielle is doing her own investigative work on the legend of Dracula and truly wants to know if her ancestor really committed all of the dastardly deeds that he is credited for. Did Bram over play on the character of Dracula and if he did, did he also forget that Dracula was seen as a hero to his people? I look forward to reading Danielle’s research on her great ancestor.

Dracula in the Media
Dracula is everywhere. Dracula connects the whole multiverse. If you love reading comic books, you will know that Dracula has met all types of comic book characters from Werewolf by Night (Marvel Comics) to Vampirella to King Arthur to Batman (DC Comics) to Zorro to Indiana Jones to Doctor Strange (Marvel Comics) to Man-Bat (DC Comics). Since the character of Dracula is in the public domain, he can be used by everyone. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein has met up with Dracula in the movies and in the comic books. A historical character like King Arthur meets up with Dracula in an independent comic book. Dracula meets up with Sir Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes in a movie. Dracula meets up with Carmilla in a cartoon. The fun loving Buffy the Vampire Slayer encounters Dracula on her TV show. Win Scott Eckert who writes many books on crossovers, mentions in his books all of the characters that Dracula has met. Grandpa Munster on the Munsters talks about his meeting with Dracula and at some point of time, even claims that he is Dracula (which I don’t believe). There is even a movie out, that is based on the historical figure Billy the Kid meeting Dracula. My question is, who hasn’t Dracula met? Dracula will be on the minds of people until the end of days. Dracula showed his immortality by being all over the media. Dracula is here to stay!
