I spent 12 years in the military and one of the things I learned is that every military installation is haunted. The reason why is because of suicides, murders and soldiers overdosing on drugs. It’s a sad fact, but it’s reality. I was in the US Army, and every military installation had their own paranormal story. Living in Sacramento, I had a lot of Air Force installations near me and on my own I found my way to these installations and started asking questions about the paranormal activity happening at these installations. I asked questions with the locals at Area 51 and got some unique answers. When I was in Military Intelligence at Yongsan Barracks in Seoul, Korea, I made a lot of hot roll runs to Osan AFB in Korea. Hot roll runs is driving from Yongsan Barracks to Osan AFB to pick up reconnaissance aerial footage of North Korea and Red China. At Osan AFB there is a story of a “girl in white” that haunts the base. It is believed that she was a prostitute that committed suicide while at the base, when she learned her Airman was cheating on her. Below are stories of some of the Air Force Bases I investigated, along with a story that comes from Armenia.

HAUNTED McCLELLAN AFB
For the vast majority of its operational lifetime, McClellan was a logistics and maintenance facility for a wide variety of military aircraft, equipment and supplies. Initially known as the Pacific Air Depot and Sacramento Air Depot. In 1939 the base was renamed for Major Hezekiah McClellan, a pioneer in arctic aeronautical tests. Born in 1894, he died on 25 May 1936 when his Consolidated P-30 which he was flight testing, crashed near Centerville, Ohio. McClellan closed shop in 2001. McClellan AFB is very haunted. In 1988, during my single years I went partying at a nightclub called Charlie Browns. I met an Air Force lady Airman. We danced the night away and then she invited me to sleepover at her barracks. She snuck me onto the base, and I spent the whole night with her, in her dorm room. The dorm room was on the 2nd floor and my lady friend said that sometimes there is knocking on the wall that faces the outside yard. There are no steps on the outside wall and in the middle of the night, she would sometimes hear knocking on her dorm wall. There is no way that someone can knock on this wall, since it is on the second floor and there are no outside steps to this wall. Sure enough, around 3am to 4am, there was tapping on the wall and then solid knocks on the wall. I looked out the window, and there was no one outside that could be knocking on the wall. Another factor is that my lady friend and I, were the only ones in the dorm room, her two roommates were out of town. When I left in the morning, I had breakfast with my lady friend and she told me that in 1989, an Airman First Class that stayed in her room, committed suicide by slicing his wrists. The Airman First Class learned that his wife was cheating on him with his best friend. My lady friend believes that this Airman First Class is the one knocking on the wall.

HAUNTED TAVUSH PROVINCE, ARMENIA
Karen Jean Caruso Roberts Walker is a world traveler. She has been on cruises in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. She has traveled to Egypt and South Korea. There is one vacation, that impacted her life, and she will remember for the rest of her life. Her trip to Armenia. The visit to Armenia was for relaxing and learning about the history of Armenia. Karen had friends that were Armenian and wanted to know more about their native country. Karen met up with her Armenian girlfriend and they visited the Haghartsin Monastery, Dilijan in the Tavush Province in Armenia. Karen believes she has some psychic abilities, but doesn’t know to what extent. When Karen and her friend got to the monastery, Karen detected strange shadow beings coming out of some bushes. Karen learned from the tour guide that this monastery was built in the 13th-century. They built the monastery close to the town of Dilijan in the Tavush Province of Armenia. Construction on the monastery was in the 10th century and completed in the 13th century under the rule of Khachatur of Taron – under the patronage of the Bagratuni Dynasty. As Karen proceeded into the monastery, she saw 2 female ghosts. Both female ghosts wore a pure black robe. Both female ghosts had what looked like a hoodie over their heads. They had 2 crosses dangling from their necks. Both women had a rosery around their wrists and both women were carrying bibles. The two women ghosts walked past Karen and her friend. Karen and her friend both got chilled by a passing wind. Karen believes the 2 female ghosts caused the cold spots. Karen’s friend is not psychic and did not see the spectres. Karen also saw on the grounds a male ghost wearing what looked like MC Hammer pants, fur jacket and a wrap-around cloth hat. Karen says the monastery is very haunted and that the ghosts are not threatening. Karen will always remember this visit to the monastery, because never in her life had she seen so many ghosts in one place.

HAUNTED TRAVIS AFB
With Travis AFB, I investigated this base with a paranormal investigator Airmen that brought me onto the base. We investigated different areas of the base and acquired 3 EVPs. The first EVP was a man’s voice saying “Tally Ho!”. 2nd EVP of a man’s voice saying “eyes skyward!”. 3rd EVP of a man’s voice saying “fly, fight and win!” We captured a lot of orb photos, but orbs can be almost anything, so I dismiss the orb photos as evidence. Travis AFB is named in honor of Brigadier General Robert F. Travis, who was killed in a B-29 crash at the installation on 5 August 1950.

HAUNTED AVIANO AIR BASE
Aviano Air Base was established by the Italian government in 1911 as the first airport in Italy. It was later used as training base for Italian pilots and construction facility for aircraft parts. During World War I, Italy used the airfield in missions against the Austro-Hungarian and German armies. The USAF first arrived in Aviano in the winter of 1954 and there was snow on the ground. When I took some R&R (Rest and Relaxation) time off, I visited Italy with my Sergeant Major. When I got to Bologna, Italy, I was basically on my own. I met two Airmen at a nightclub called the Dome. I made friends with these two Airmen quickly and was offered to crash out at their barracks, to save money and not spending it on a hotel. These two Airmen told me that some of the planes on the base are haunted by dead pilots. Sometimes pilots or Airmen see pilots sitting in the cockpits of the planes, when there shouldn’t be any pilots in the planes. The pilots are seen for a while in the cockpits and then they simply vanish.

HAUNTED MATHER AFB
Mather Air Force Base (Mather AFB) was a United States Air Force Base, which was closed in 1993 pursuant to a post-Cold War BRAC decision. It was located 12 miles (19 km) east of Sacramento, on the south side of U.S. Route 50 in Sacramento County, California. Mather Field was one of 32 Air Service training camps established after the United States entry into World War I in April 1917. The Mather AFB land has various post-military uses including Sacramento Mather Airport, established in 1995. Some of the land was included in the City of Rancho Cordova, when it was incorporated in 2003. Mather Air Force Base was named after Second Lieutenant Carl Spencer Mather, a 25-year-old army pilot killed in a mid-air collision while training at Ellington Field, Texas on 30 January 1918. Mather learned to fly in 1914 at the Curtiss Flying School in Hammondsport, New York, and became an instructor there at the age of 20. He enlisted as an aviation cadet in August 1917 and as a licensed pilot was commissioned with part of his class as a second lieutenant on 20 January 1918. When I was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona in 1979, my Army buddy and I, decided to hitchhike during the Christmas season from Fort Huachuca to Lake Tahoe to pick up my car and have Christmas dinner with my family in Sacramento. A Semi-Trailer Truck picked us up and dropped us off in Los Angeles. We spent the night in LA, and the next day an Airman from Mather AFB picked us up. We had dinner at my parent’s house in Sacramento, made a stop at Mather AFB and then went to Lake Tahoe, where I was able to pick up my car. The Airman that picked us up said that Mather AFB is very haunted. The Airman said that one time in the chow hall, there was a technical sergeant sitting by himself, with no food on the table. The Airman thought it was odd, that this sergeant was sitting by himself and went over to him. The Technical Sergeant looked up at him and smiled, then vanished. Other Airmen have seen the technical sergeant walking around the base and has even seen him walk through a fence. The story goes that this Technical Sergeant died during a training incident and haunts Mather AFB.
