If you don’t know who Stephen Skeates is, let me tell you, he is a comic book legend. Before I got into the world of paranormal investigating, I was heavily involved in the comic book industry. I published my own comic book called The Legendary Dark Silhouette, and I created over 100 issues of the (PCBN) Peoples’ Comic Book Newsletter with my business partner the late Jeff Clifford. The PCBN was and still is a very well-known fanzine. The purpose of the PCBN was to promote upcoming comic book artists and writers. The PCBN is housed in many university libraries. A little bit about Steve Skeates. “In 1965, Skeates moved to New York City to become Stan Lee’s assistant editor, (yes, that Stan Lee). This assignment largely required him to proofread finished comics. His lack of skill for this quickly became apparent, and Lee grew frustrated when obvious artwork errors were overlooked. Within two weeks, Roy Thomas became the new assistant, and Skeates was assigned to write westerns as compensation. Using his brief term as Lee’s assistant as a calling card, Skeates picked up work at Tower, Charlton, DC, Gold Key, Red Circle, Archie, and Warren Publishing (for whom he wrote 72 stories from 1971 to 1975). His stories were illustrated by such artists as Jim Aparo, Dick Ayers, Gene Colan, Alex Toth, Gil Kane, Ogden Whitney, Ramona Fradon, Mike Grell, Wally Wood, and Dick Giordano.”

During my comic book collecting days, I read the stories that Steve Skeates created in publications like Aquaman, Hawk & Dove, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, Plop and Charlton’s Mystery Anthology “The Many Ghosts of Doctor Graves.” Steve Skeates was an incredible comic book writer. Steve knew how to throw the bait out there and hook you with his incredible stories. So, when Steve Skeates one day contacted me during my time publishing the PCBN and asked to subscribe to my newsletter, I was SHOCKED. Steve Skeates, an American Comic Book Creator and one time Stan Lee’s Assistant Editor at Marvel Comics wanted to subscribe to the PCBN. Before I knew it, Steve Skeates started contributing stories for my newsletter and that is when I asked him if he would like to be the Editor of the Peoples’ Comic Book Newsletter and he accepted! What an honor to have this legend on my staff.

MY VISION OF STEVE SKEATES
Now that you know my connection with Steve Skeates, I was subjected to a vision last night (7/19/2023). I have never claimed to be a psychic and the experience I had last night, I feel is real. I do not believe its because I have psychic abilities. Last night, I dreamed I was walking into this huge comic book library and sitting at a desk was Steve Skeates. I looked at Steve and said…”what are you doing here?” Steve looked up at me and said….”we had fun didn’t we?” I noticed that Steve was reading a PCBN. I looked at Steve and said: “Yes, it was a blast and you contributed so much to the PCBN. I can’t thank you enough.” Steve looks up at me and says: “It was a pleasure, I had fun doing it and I better go now.” To my dismay, Steve vanishes before my very eyes. The only thing that is left is the PCBN he was looking at, sitting on top of the desk. The dream ends and I wake up at 4:00 a.m. I get up and turn on my computer. It has been a long time since I talked with Steve and I thought to myself, perhaps I better call him. The first thing I did before searching for his phone number is to look at his Wikipedia and to my horror, I discover that Steve died on March 30, 2023!! I had no idea that Steve Skeates DIED!

Then it hit me. Steve Skeates came to visit me through a vision, a dream. I believe he was letting me know that he was okay in the afterlife. The dream was so vivid, I would have to call it a vision. I am still in a state of shock having this vivid dream or vision and finding out that Steve Skeates passed away. Steve Skeates accomplishments will live on forever. Godspeed Steve.
