My very popular DJ nephew Michaelis Jacoby lived the life of a DJ adventurer. Performing for large crowds in Moscow, Russia, DJing for Hollywood celebrities in Los Angeles and living the life in Bali. Michaelis loves traveling to exotic locations, like Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. When you travel, the history and legends are told by very enthusiastic locals. What always amazed me is that paranormal stories are the stories that locals relish the most. Here are some of the best paranormal stories out of Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia below:

SINGAPORE
If you are looking for cryptids in Singapore, you will discover the cryptid known as the Bukit Timah Monkey Man. This monkey man is said to inhabit the forested Bukit Timah region. The monkey man may be a hominid or primate. A tourist from Liverpool, England named William C. Wilkins encountered the monkey man in 1992, and says it is definitely bipedal. When William encountered this cryptid it ran past him and scratched his leg with his teeth bared. Locals say that the cryptid is gray in color and is usually around 5 feet tall. It walks on both legs and has a face of a monkey. Japanese soldiers in World War II encountered this cryptid. First sighting was in 1805, and the latest sighting was in 2020.

A very haunted house is the Pasir Ris Red House. This house has a scary and dark history. Japanese soldiers occupied this house from 1942 to 1945, it was allegedly used as a temporary nursery and shelter for children. Some say a massacre happened there, with children and teachers burned alive or bayoneted. Another chilling tale involves a man who murdered his wife and children before taking his own life. The family’s spirit is said to linger near an old tree that once stood beside the house. Ghost hunters have reported blood dripping from the interior walls. A haunted doll named Mikayla sits on a rocking chair and will rock the chair. Sometimes a sinister little girl’s voice emulates from the doll. If you think that is creepy, you also have an eerie Chinese guardian lion statue that has glowing red eyes. The lion statue’s head will actually turn and look at you! The house is now known as the Odyssey Preschool. It has been renovated and the activity has simmered down somewhat. Past stories of this place, still gives people goosebumps. Another creepy haunted place is the Old Changi Hospital. This abandoned hospital has a reputation for being one of Singapore’s most haunted places. It served as a British military hospital during World War II and witnessed countless deaths. People that have walked through this hospital have heard moaning, screaming and gurgling noises. Frightening shadows have been seen moving across the walls. A man with no arms in seen walking outside of the building. A ghost hunter claims that he captured an EVP outside of the hospital and it was a man’s voice that said: “Don’t let me die!”

MALAYSIA
When in Malaysia and you want to experience something spooky, stop by Kellie’s Castle, Perak. This elaborate mansion, once owned by Scottish William Kellie Smith. When Smith died, it was left abandoned for over 80 years. It gained a mysterious reputation due to the discovery of four hidden tunnels beneath the house, where over 70 workers were said to have died from the Spanish flu while working inside the tunnels. Disembodied coughing is heard in the tunnels. Sometimes the coughing gets louder and louder. Smith’s restless spirit has been seen roaming a balcony marked with a plaque reading “Ghostly Cloister Balcony.” His 6-year-old daughter has been spotted wearing an all-white ensemble and running around her abandoned bedroom. The ghostly little girl is sometimes heard giggling or laughing. A worker who died in the house is said to haunt the laundry room. The ghostly laundry room worker will at times appear in front of you, and then just stare before disappearing. The wine cellar, which leads into the mysterious tunnels, is also home to unidentified shadow entities. If you want to visit, head over to: 31000 Batu Gajah, Perak

If cryptids are more your thing, you may find the cryptid Orang Pendek. The Orang Pendek, meaning “short person” in Indonesian, is a cryptid believed to inhabit the dense forests of Sumatra, Indonesia and Malaysia. While not exclusively Malaysian, it is often mentioned in the context of the region. Descriptions vary, but it is generally depicted as a small, bipedal ape-like creature. Witnesses claim to have seen it moving swiftly through the underbrush, with reddish-brown or gray fur. Some speculate that it could be a surviving population of an unknown primate species. It appears that many small humanoid cryptids exist in Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia. We must remember, the remains of one of the most recently discovered early human species, Homo floresiensis (nicknamed ‘Hobbit’), have so far only been found on the Island of Flores, Indonesia. Small cryptids like Orang Pendek and Bukit Timah Monkey Man may just be the cousins to the Hobbit!

INDONESIA
The cryptid called the Ahool lives in the deepest parts of the jungles of Java, and can be found across most of Indonesia. Sub-species can be found on the nearby island of New Guinea in the form of the Ropen, a presumed cousin to the Ahool. The Ropen has a long snout, large wings and a long thin crest. The Ahool though, has a distinct face that has features of both a chimpanzee and a bat with large dark eyes, red skinned wings, large claws on its forearms, and is covered in grey fur. This monster is said to have a wingspan of 18 to 28 feet. The creature’s diet consists of local fauna, such as large fish. There are stories that on rare occasions the Ahool will attack humans. The calling sound from the Ahool is….AHOOL!! Now you know why it’s called Ahool. The Ahool is territorial and if the opportunity is there to attack larger prey, it will. One scientist theorized that the creature may be related to another cryptid, the Kongamato. However, it’s described as more of a bat-like creature than a reptile-like one. It may be closely related to the Orang Bati. Some villagers say that on stormy nights you will see the Ahool flying about and yelling its name…AHOOL!

Now that you know about the cryptid Ahool hanging out in Indonesia, you are probably wondering if there are any haunted places in Indonesia. You better believe it and my nephew Michaelis has heard many stories. Here is one of them. Lawang Sewu, Semarang is widely regarded as Indonesia’s most haunted place. This grand colonial-era building in Semarang was owned by the Dutch. This building served as a symbol of the success of the Dutch. With all of this majestic facade in regard to Lawang Sewu, there is also a very dark history. During the Japanese Occupation, the underground tunnels of Lawang Sewu were used as brutal prisons where inmates faced torture. Their decapitated heads were even piled in the basement. Visitors have reported encountering the ghost of a girl who committed suicide to escape torture. She is said to roam the tower, her feet often floating off the ground. Ghostly decapitated heads are sometimes seen floating about in the tunnels. Loud disembodied screaming is heard in the building and in the tunnels.

If you visit any of these haunted locations or encounter any of these cryptids, tell me about it. You can email me at: [email protected]
