Obama's Ferguson Missouri speech in review

The violence in Ferguson rages now even fiercer and hotter now than it was over a week ago. Police hoped the riots might subside on the first night of the scheduled school year, but that was not the case. Two more people were shot and 31 people were arrested on Monday night.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon called on the National Guard to reinforce the police presence on the streets. Police fully equipped with riot shields, gas masks, assault rifles and other military gear continue to march the streets and fire tear gas into crowds of protesters. When President Obama spoke a SECOND time on the Missouri violence, he said there is NO excuse for police to interfere with peaceful protesters.

That all sounds good. The First Amendment grants Americans the right to peacefully assemble and it sounds like Obama supports that, especially when he gets to read a pre-written statement. But how do police get their hands on this kind of military equipment? You’ll see the President doesn’t do so well when he has to answer questions on the fly.

So let me get this right? Obama blames 9-11 for police using military weapons straight from Iraq? That statement is so mind blowing, it’s hard to wade through all of the hypocrisy. First, what can an assault rifle do to stop a jetliner? And by the way, why are they wearing camo? To blend in with the sidewalks??? Who are the police HIDING from?

Second, Obama says the 911 attacks stemmed the need for these weapons, when the war in Iraq is the SAME beast that is feeding these weapons right TO the police! But instead of the assault rifle firing on al-Qaeda or Taliban, police point the SAME weapons at peaceful protesters and journalists.

And THIRD, WHO exactly decides WHEN a police department gets to pull out their military grade weapons? Who makes THAT decision? Because by ALL accounts, there is NO terrorist activity happening in Ferguson Missouri. Unless, of course, you count the murder of an unarmed citizen a terrorist act.
