Cop Killed, Prompting Fox Lake, Illinois, Manhunt

BREAKING News: An officer was killed this morning in the vicintity of Fox Lake, Illinois, prompting a large manhunt for the individuals involved.

A morning encounter beween an Illinois police officer and three male suspects resulted in the officer being shot and killed.

Lake County Sheriff’s Det. Chris Covelli is saying that around 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, the officer radioed he was pursuing three suspects, after looking into their “suspicious activity.” Shortly afterwards, police lost radio contact with the officer, and other officers dispatched to the scene found the first officer with a gunshot wound.

A manhunt is underway, with authorities bringing in K-9 units and helicopters to assist in the search area of the shooting to locate the three armed and dangerous suspects.

Early reports mentioned that the weapon of the police officer killed was missing from the scene.

According to media reports, residents of Lake and McHenry counties, where the manhunt is taking place, have beeen told to exercise caution and call 911 if they spot anything or anyone suspicious.

A number of schools in the area of the manhunt have been placed on lockdown

The Metra trains on the Milwaukee District/North Line, which ends in the community of Fox Lake, have has their service stopped due to the manhunt. The Ingleside train station has been closed, with passengers being bused to the Long Lake station for their trip to downtown Chicago. Authorities are indicating train service disruptions on the Milwaukee District/North Line were likely to continue until the suspects are captured or killed, and the manhunt ends.
