Big Brother Spybot In Your Vehicle-- Cops Use OnStar To Eavesdrop And Track Alleged Hit And Run Driver [Picture, Video--NSFWV]

A southermn Indiana gun owner found out the hard way that OnStar does more than help you out in vehicle emergencies; it ccan also lead the cops to your door.  In the we hours of the morning, Wednesday before Thanksgiving, a passenger car was hit by a van which left the seen.  The occupants of the car were injured. The cops investsigating the incident relayed info to a dispatcher, who happened to get a call from Onstar.  The Onstar rep said a vehicle using their system had been in an accident and the airbags had deployed.  The quick thinking dispatcher put one and one together and called Onstar back to get the info about the onstar client.  Onstar gave them the info and the local police dispatcher loooked it up in the police comnuter. The owner of the vehicle was a licensed gun owner.  Because the owner had a licensed firearm, there was an “officer safety alert” on the address.

Although  I expected to hear SWAT being dispatched, it dfidfn’ happen.  Calmer heads somehow nutralized all of the tesosterone and adrenaline that was flowing.  As of this writing, the incident is dead in th water.  

This is a lesson that Onstars does more than help motoristss. It can also lead law enforcement to your door, and, according to the informatin below: it can also eavesdrop on you.

GM cars equipped with OnStar are supposed to be the leading edge of safety and technology. OnStar has run a recent blitz of commercials citing helpless motorists calling in with every type of emergency, from a heart attack to locking the keys inside the car. In the advertising world, OnStar reacts quickly by sending help or even unlocking the car.

However, buried deep inside the OnStar system is a feature few suspected – the ability to eavesdrop on unsuspecting motorists.

The FBI found out about this passive listening feature and promptly served OnStar with a court order forcing the company to give it access. The court order the FBI gave OnStar was not something out of the Patriot Act involving international terrorism or national security but a simple criminal case.According to court records, OnStar complied with the order but filed a protest lawsuit against the FBI.  SOURCE
