12 Die, 30 Injures in Somalia clashes

Mogadishu, 28, June 2010 (BIN) – At least 12 people have been killed and 30 others injured in a bloody skirmishes between insurgents and government troops in Somalia’s capital on Monday.

Clashes broke out in the northern parts of Mogadishu, killed at least seven people, mostly civilians, witnesses told Before It’s News.

Al-Shabab extremist militias landed mortars at military base housing African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM), backing the government troops in the area to engage in a gun skirmish and mortar fire exchange with the militants.

Medina hospital in the capital officials confirmed that they received 30 civilians injured and treating them in the hospital..

Meanwhile heavy shelling in Mogadishu started after Al-Shabab, the Al-Qaeda proxy in Somalia shelled mortars at bases of African Union Troops Peacekeepers (AMISOM) and Somali government troops.

Somalia has been without an effective central government for the last two decades and 3.7 million people is in dire need of humanitarian food aid.
