Oil survey in Yemen caused clashes left 9 dead

SANA’A, Yemen 25, June 2010 (BIN) – At least nine people have been killed and eight others injured in tribal clashes between the Abida tribe and Balharith north eastern Yemen, on Wednesday.

Local residents confirmed that the clashes broke out after quarrel between the two tribes on employment in the oil company performing surveys in the field of oil in the border region between the provinces of Marib and Shabwa.

The battle killed nine people and injured from two tribes. Each of the two tribes claimed that employees from their tribe must do the survey and have the right to exploratory, because the area is owned by their clan.

According to the decision of the Council of Ministers of Yemen, each tribe the right and the initial recruitment of children in oil company drilling in the region, while there has been no comment on the incident by the official authorities so far.

Elders from other tribes started to mediate the fought tribes and made agreement on a truce for a period of eight days between the two sides to settle their dispute and conflict resolution.
