Faith and Free Speech

 We hold these values as Americans to be equal not putting one over the other in attempt to control either right as human beings. Everyday Christians along with many other faiths are mocked, made fun of or insulted by many. While clearly there are many of faith who wish people wouldn’t do that but understand the right of free speech is equal to their right to freedom of religion. While the attack on the Libyan consulate to me had nothing to do with the protests it certainly gave the terrorists good cover to attack.

 The Libyan people should be saddened by the death of someone who was helping the rebels overthrow a dictator.  U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens worked tirelessly to help the Libyan people and payed for that sacrifice with his life. We are different in our views and Americans shouldn’t expect you to be like us, however respect those differences. You will never succeed by rioting, burning flags, threatening or killing people when you disagree with someone being critical or insulting Islam. We hold the right of free speech as part of being free, being able to speak your mind even when the speech may be offensive to some. You can burn all the cars, throw rocks, make your threats or kill our soldiers and diplomats, it will never change our core belief in freedom.

Freedom from each other

 The Turkish ambassador has no called for international blasphemy laws, I should point out that our Constitution trumps all UN laws so good luck with that. That is what makes America great, the Constitution limits what the government has the power to do. It can agree with international law, it can even sign a treaty but if it violates the Constitution the agreement is meaningless. Free Speech is equal to Freedom of Religion here and always will be.

 The state department, along with all others in this administration who have apologized for someone expressing their beliefs are wrong. They have already gone after him, blaming him instead of the people who don’t respect people’s right to their free speech. His rights don’t get violated just because you don’t happen to agree with him, however they have been appealing and apologizing for years now. Our federal government would certainly like to stop people like this but our founders thought better of letting government decide what people should be allowed to say.

 We celebrate our rights here, all of them equally and we accept that people will do things that are offensive to some. Nothing anybody says will change anything about what is happening and it for sure will happen again. My suggestion is grow some thicker skin, grow up a little and accept that only our government will bow to your whims. The rest of us Americans are going to keep on enjoying our natural and god given right to be FREE.
