Anglin statement on Western Alberta Transmission Line approval

EDMONTON, AB (December 6, 2012): Wildrose Official Opposition Utilities Critic Joe Anglin released the following statement on today’s approval of the Western Alberta Transmission Line:

“The approval of this line is yet another example of the colossal failure of Bill 50 and will mean even higher electricity bills for Alberta consumers.

“It’s troubling to see the Alberta Utilities Commission reject the constitutional arguments brought forth concerning federal jurisdiction over the export of electricity and continue down this path of building unnecessary and expensive transmission lines. It’s especially troubling given that AltaGas just days ago filed for a license to export electricity using this very line from the Wabamun area to the United States.

“I was also surprised to see the AUC reference arguments made by the PC government in the Legislature in its ruling while ignoring arguments presented by the Wildrose Official Opposition and other parties.

“Ultimately, I’m extremely disappointed that this government has followed through on a transmission policy that has ignored facts, sidestepped consultation, shut down debate and will result in even higher electricity bills for Alberta families and businesses.”
