Legalized Theft Called Income Tax

 On February 3rd 1913 the sixteenth amendment of the Constitution was ratified, the government has stolen and grown ever since. Why wasn’t there a big party? Could be that the people who pay couldn’t attend, it would only the people who receive other people’s labor.

 The federal government has used this expansion in theft to grow, continually expanding the size of government. Could you imagine this government being this large without being able to steal? I do call what they do as theft, taxing what people earn and not letting them decide how the money should be spent. The size of government will never shrink much anymore, too few are interested anymore to limit what government takes and does in the people’s name.

 High tax rates don’t necessarily bring in more revenue, in 1960 when the top individual rate was 91% the revenue was 7.8% of GDP. When they lowered the rate to just under 75% in 1965 the taxes generated 7.1% of GDP, Reagan lowered this to 28% and got 8%. When Clinton raised the rates to 39.6% it produced 7.7% revenue to GDP. This really proves tax revenue doesn’t change on individual taxes collected to GDP no matter where the rate is set.

 Taxpayers have usually dictated by their actions how much revenue comes in, government has never learned we like to keep our property. Those who wish to expand government like Barack Obama and George Bush before him need more revenue to pay for their bloated government.

 The current rate change for higher income people will do little or nothing for the deficit, they of course already knew this. They could raise the rate to 50% tomorrow and be stumped at why the tax revenue doesn’t increase. More people working generates more revenue than raising rates, something I’m not sure Obama understands. Further rate increases would do little for revenue but could seriously damage the meager recovery we have experienced the last three years.

 Obama could look for new ways to tax, Congress could go right along with him attempting to avert having to actually cut the size of government. Every time I hear VAT tax it makes me cringe, they could also look at other ways to tax business to avoid any tough choices. All new taxes could cause contraction to the economy and especially jobs which we still desperately need.

 The fight against taxes from personal income is now 100 years old, it’s going to be a never-ending battle between those who want more or less government. Those who believe in big government will seek to tax everyone more, looking to keep government growing. The fight against taxes isn’t a new one, part of how this country was founded was about taxes and they were minor compared to today’s. I wish this was a birthday that I could celebrate but how can you celebrate taking people’s property to spend in their name how government wishes.
