You nailed it! The US system is like a two-headed monster. In public, the two heads argue and bicker, particularly over which gets the most “food”, but behind the scenes, they are kissing and smooching and sharing the food.
I would say the only difference between the two parties is that there is the rare conservative who has registered as a Republican while there is not a single conservative who has registered as a Democrat in the past 10+ years.
