Democrats blocking US Senate resolution honouring Lady Thatcher

Senators belonging to the Democratic Party of the United States are reportedly blocking a Senate resolution honouring the life and work of the late Margaret Thatcher, who passed away earlier this week.

The Heritage Foundation reports that a Senate resolution to honour Lady Thatcher was supposed to pass last night.  However, “well placed sources on the Hill”, have reported that Democrats have a hold on the resolution.

Writing for Heritage’s Forge Blog, Katherine Rosario, think-tank’s Communications Deputy said: “To refuse to honor a woman of such great historical and political significance, who was deeply loyal to the United States, is petty and shameful.  One truly has to wonder, what is it about Lady Thatcher that gives them pause?  Her unfaltering commitment to freedom?  Or perhaps the way she fought for individual liberty and limited government?”

Congress used traditional bereavement procedures, the same model they used for John F. Kennedy, described as a simple, solemn means of honouring the individual by passing a resolution and immediately adjourning.
