Dallas Police Dept Views Citizens as…..

BAIT.

Really that is the only realistically describe how they handled the recent serial rapist case.
Now I realize how difficult of a job the police have; truly I do. I’m not giving them grief for interviewing the suspect and then letting him go.

Last Wednesday, a tip came in about Dixson. Police found him, interviewed him for two hours, then gave him a DNA swab. At that point they had no evidence to arrest him.

Contrary to TV shows and liberal fantasies; forensic work doesn’t get done quickly enough to wrap a case in 60 minutes and have time left over for commercials. They had insufficient evidence to charge in the case so they  did the legal and moral thing and released him. Unfortunately they also did the stupid thing (the key piece of evidence — his distinctive glasses was enough to justify it) and didn’t watch him. Prime suspect and not one officer assigned to surveillance.

But they certainly didn’t mind offering up the citizens of Dallas as bait for this rapist thug.

Chief Brown also responded to critics who say the general public was not notified early enough about a rapist on the loose.

He says he knew an alert could bring more victims forward, but it would likely lead to a number of false tips and alert the suspect. Chief Brown says all of those predictions came true.

The video I watched this morning had Chief Brown stating that alerting the residents of Dallas would have made it ‘more difficult for us to arrest him’  — as if the ease of their job had a higher priority then the safety of the people. Working through false tips is part of your job; if you are unwilling to do that, quit and let someone else do it.

“I chose the best path that gave us the best chance to arrest, charge and prosecute the suspect,” Brown said. “Pick your poison… damned if you do, damned if you don’t.”

Chief Brown did you ever consider if you had let people know about the rapist sooner that fewer women might have been raped? That they would have armed themselves and fought back ?

Maybe Chief Brown you need to take time to read your department’s Mission Statement

• Realizing that the Police Department alone cannot control crime, but must act in concert with the community and the rest of the Criminal Justice System.

How is keeping vital information about a serial rapist meeting that ?

Please stop treating the residents of North Texas as children. Let them decide based on the best information available — accurately and quickly disseminated by the police department — on how to go about their lives.
