Illegal! White House in Panic Mode -- “Temporarily” Suspends Individual Mandate For People Who Had Their Plans Cancelled…

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Via WaPo:

Today, the Obama administration announced that people whose insurance plans were cancelled this year will “temporarily” be exempted from the individual mandate. Here’s how they’re doing it — and what it means for the law.

1. The individual mandate includes a “hardship exemption.” People who qualify can either ignore the individual mandate altogether or purchase a cheap, bare-bones catastrophic insurance plan that’s typically only available to people under age 30.

2. According to HHS, the exemption covers people who “experienced financial or domestic circumstances, including an unexpected natural or human-caused event, such that he or she had a significant, unexpected increase in essential expenses that prevented him or her from obtaining coverage under a qualified health plan.”

3. Today, the administration agreed with a group of senators, led by Mark Warner of Virginia, who argued that having your insurance plan canceled counted as “an unexpected natural or human-caused event.” For these people, in other words, Obamacare itself is the hardship. You can read Sebelius’s full letter here. HHS’s formal guidance is here.

A crock. The only thing worse than signing up for the new insurance is trying to collect on it if you need it.

      • Fred C Dobbs

That has been my experience with all insurance I have purchased. There is a reason all of the big buildings have insurance company names on them.

        Obama-Who-Cares?

    • Banderman

The only thing worse than Obama-Don’t-Care is a President that seems to believe HE can change laws on a whim.

    • Boxed in Freight

How can this man go around congress and make changes to a law, he can’t. He can’t do this, this is illegal, you cannot make changes to the law without there being a bill for you to sign. This is an illegal action, just like the other waivers and EO’s which have been signed and put in place. You cannot pass a law in the United States of America, then go back and change it in the executive branch. This is called a dictatorship, America is not a dictatorship.

        yet..

    • CrowPie

You remind me of a borderline personality teenaged girl. You cannot and will not be pleased.

Here you have a man who is trying to insure 50 billion people. And you accuse him of panicking when he makes an adjustment to better serve the masses.

It blows my mind how hard you work to continue to vilify the man.

      • Idiot Proof

Are you really that vapid, or are you being sarcastic? PLEASE tell me you were trying to be funny. I sincerely hope that you are not brainless enough to have been serious.

      • Neanderthal

Well let it blow something else besides your mind. That might be a good thing to waste.

        • CrowPie

          @Neanderthal

Careful. I’ll make a comment with the word “blow” in it about you……then you’ll have to delete that comment.

That’ll make two incriminating comments in one day……that you would have to delete…that is.

Like King, you’re now guilty of plagairism.

I’m sorry….but anyone who has ever lived with or around a borderline personality teenaged girl….has the right to use that as an example……

No one has a patent on it!

      • Sunshine

Crowpie, no one has to ‘work’ to villify that ‘man’. He’s a dumbass, just that simple. Dumbass and a fraud.

      LOOK INTO THIS MAJOR THEORY

NELSON MANDELA WHILE IN PRISON HAD A LOVE CHILD AFTERCONJUGAL VISITATIONS…THAT CHILD WAS “barack hussein obama”!!

many have thought that during one of malcolm x-1960 visits to africa brought us the conception ofobama. it was definately one or the other

    • zeus

like the 2008bank-fed rip off of the middle class houseing…the obamacare fiasco is being portrayed that way to divert from the real problem. it is a scam that would reap millions for the big pharma and insurance companies,as the part-d benefiets for seniors and the poor are played on

It is unconscionable that in one of the most advanced nations in the world, there are nearly 50 million people who lack health insurance and millions more who have burdensome co-payments and deductibles. In fact, some 45,000 Americans die each year because they do not get to a doctor when they should. In terms of life expectancy, infant mortality and other health outcomes, the United States lags behind almost every other advanced country.

Despite this unimpressive record, the US spends almost twice as much per person on healthcare as any other nation. As a result of an incredibly wasteful, bureaucratic, profit-making and complicated system, the US spends 17% of its gross domestic product – approximately $2.7tn annually– on healthcare. While insurance companies, drug companies, private hospitals and medical equipment suppliers make huge profits, Americans spend more and get less for their healthcare dollars.

If we had Medicare for all; paid for through taxes; and remove the “for profit” component; you would save 30%+ right out of the gate. Some of the things you do need to spend money on to supply health care to someone are doctors, nurses, hospitals, drugs, medical equipment, clinics, etc. The one thing you don’t need is insurance companies. They are the direct reason for the US being #1 in healthcare costs and # 37th in actual healthcare services. Insurance companies offer no service except to jack-up the costs and provide a return for their investors at patients expense. Through sheer volume, we could self insure ourselves at a much cheaper price and much more efficiently.

Think about it. The only way an insurance company can make money is to collectively overcharge their customers the percentage of profit margin, over and above their expenses. The expenses include the paying of claims, but also include, executive pay and bonuses, profits, employee pay, benefits, taxes (maybe not), Marketing and Administrative Expenses ( you even have to pay for their TV ads), utility costs, maintenance costs, and much, much, more; that are passed directly to the patient on top of already high actual health care costs.

A 2004 economic study published in The New England Journal of Medicine determined that a national single-payer healthcare system would reduce costs by more than $400 billion a year “despite the expansion of comprehensive care to all Americans.” I’m sure that figure has increased since then.
I think the cartoon at the bottom of this page says it all –

        Cheers :)

        • CrowPie

I agree! Single payer all around!

Big Pharma is breaking it off in our ass in a big way too. Consider this – What was the last disease that medicine has ‘cured’? Polio was the last one I could think of and that was quite a long time ago. Sure, if you need a woody or have heartburn, they can fix you up; but what have they done for us lately? I contend that they have an incentive to keep things just as they are.

If you were a technician at a pharmaceutical company, and walked into the board of directors meeting with a pill that would with one dose, cure all cancers; what do you imagine they would do with that drug? Do you think they would develop it and shoot themselves in the foot, by losing all of the revenue produced with chemotherapy drugs? Of course not. By law, a corporation’s main objective is to return shareholder value. They have all the incentive to help you with your symptoms, because that makes you a repeatable customer, but no incentive at all to produce cures because cures lessen profits. It’s time to take the profit OUT of healthcare.

In Chief Justice Roberts written opinion; concluded in part III-A that the INDIVIDUAL MANDATE IS NOT A VALID EXERCISE of congress’s power under the commerce clause and the necessary and proper clause!
      THAT MEANS ITS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

Now stop yammering on about something that has been found to be unconstitutional, NO ONE HAS TO SIGN UP! IT IS A TRICK! YOU WILL BE SIGNING AWAY YOUR LIVES!
