President Obama – Americans Need To Trust Their Government

Just a heads up, but I am having to write this post between bouts of laughter. Even knowing liberals like I do, and having watched Barack Obama in action as President for the past five years, I can’t help but be surprised at some of the things he says. Even so, his latest speech has some of his best lines yet. Who knows, after he retires and moves to Hawaii, he may find work as a standup comedian.

Did you know Americans need to trust their government more? According to President Obama, that is exactly what is wrong with our country. Well, that and that evil, white, and rich Republicans are spreading the fallacy that people should be self-sufficient and not have to rely on government to take care of their needs. White House Dossier – And part of what contributes to that is the sense that nobody in Washington cares about them; or what people in Washington care about is their own jobs, their own positions, their own perks, squabbling between the two parties.

And so not only have we seen in Congress, in particular, over the last three to four years an utter failure to address the concerns of ordinary middle-class families, but that reinforces, then, people’s sense that there’s no point in us getting involved at all, and increases apathy or a lack of confidence in our government . . .

The truth of the matter is, is that the reason that we have not seen Washington address the core concerns of too many working families around the country is that you have a party that has been captive to an ideology, to a theory of economics, that says those folks, they’re on their own and government doesn’t have an appropriate role to play.

And our goal and our task in this midterm has to be to break that grip, that particular view, that particular wrongheaded vision this country has so that we can get back to the business of investing in the American people and investing in America’s future.

There are certain things that President Obama is good at. We all know he is a master at playing the blame game. He has perfected that tactic in the past five years. He always manages to blame someone else for the failure of his policies. At the same time, he campaigns as if he had nothing to do with said policies, as if he were an outsider, looking into the cauldron that is Washington, D.C. The idea that anyone can still believe that line of reasoning defies simple logic. And yet, we have a President who is actively engaged in selling that lie to anyone who will listen.

Republicans are not trying to convince the rest of America that the government hates them, or that the government does not care about them. Our philosophy is simple. Government has a place in our lives and a role to play, but it is not, and should never be, in the position of making our decisions and ruling our lives. People should have and exercise personal responsibility and should never rely on the government to take the place of said responsibility. To do anything less violates the most basic premise of conservationism and of the very foundations on which America was established.

I have news for liberals and for President Obama. Not all Republicans are white or rich. I am white, but I am not rich. I was taught by my parents to be self-sufficient and to rely on no one but myself. I have raised my family in the same manner. Relying on the government to take the role of responsibility in our lives was never an option. It is my role to provide for my family, not the role of the government in Oklahoma City, or in Washington, D.C. I dare say our country would be far better off if more people felt that same responsibility.

As for the falsehood that Americans should trust their government more, seriously? Let’s see where we are at since President Obama took office. We have Benghazi, where four Americans died and the current administration obfuscated and hid the truth, in order to make certain they could have four more years in office. We have the IRS targeting conservatives because of their political beliefs. We have a Department of Justice, under orders from President Obama, deciding which laws they will enforce, or not. We have guns being ran into Mexico so they could be tracked back to Americans and possibly lead the way into restricting our 2nd Amendment rights. Conservative groups have been labeled as hate groups and possible domestic terrorists. Should I go further, or is that enough?

President Obama says Americans should trust their government more. I say, not a chance. The Democrats hold the White House, but it would not matter to me if the Republicans had moved in. Any administration that acts like the Obama administration has acted in the past five years does not deserve my trust. It’s as simple as that.
