Obama Supports ISIS, Saudi Terror ..ISIL update July 7 2014

On November 1, 2013, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki visited the
White House and asked President Barack Obama to authorize the US
military to help his beleaguered Air Force develop targets for air
strikes against militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and
the Levant (ISIL), according to The Daily Beast.

Twelve days later, Brett McGurk, a deputy assistant secretary of
state, issued a stern warning to Congress about the deteriorating
security situation in Iraq.

McGurk, who is now the Obama administration’s senior US official in
Baghdad since the crisis began last month, warned that ISIL was in part
emboldened by the weakness of the Iraqi military.

He said at the time that ISIL had “benefited from a permissive
operating environment due to inherent weaknesses of Iraqi security
forces, poor operational tactics, and popular grievances, which remain
unaddressed, among the population in Anbar and Nineveh provinces.”

Two months later, ISIL seized the strategically important city of
Fallujah in Anbar province, and last month, Iraq’s second largest
city—Mosul, in Nineveh province—fell to the hands of terrorists.

While, Obama administration officials were adamant that the collapse
of Mosul was impossible to predict, a dozen US and Iraqi intelligence
officials and diplomats told The Daily Beast that they had warned the
White House of an imminent danger.

“It’s simply not true that nobody saw a disaster like the fall of
Mosul coming,” Ali Khedery, who served as a senior adviser at the US
embassy in Baghdad, told The Daily Beast. “I can’t speak for anyone
else, but I literally predicted this in verbal warnings and in writing
in 2010 that Iraq would fall apart.”

Similarly, James Jeffrey, a former US ambassador to Iraq, had warned of the fall of Mosul.

“I
and a zillion other people said in 2014 that we needed to do more than
the very slow and inadequate reaction,” Jeffrey said. “If [ISIL] could
move in and seize Fallujah and they were on the offensive, and they were
active in Mosul and Nineveh too, the army was lethargic and not doing
very well, at that point there was a possibility for us to provide air
strikes and advisers.”

American intelligence agencies had been delivering the same warning
privately for months, but it went largely unheeded in Washington.

The CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency have issued reported
analysis for nearly a year that Iraq’s military would not be able to
combat ISIL.

Saudi-Funded War In Iraq Threatens To Spread

http://larouchepac.com/node/31232

The Saudi deployment of 30,000 troops to its border with Iraq, earlier this week, is not what it seems, given the Saudi role in creating terrorism, including its role in the 9/11 attacks on the United States, in the first place. The German news agency Deutsche Welle put some much needed attention on the Saudi backing of ISIS, yesterday, with an interview with Michael Lueder, a German journalist and Arabist based in Berlin who characterized the Saudi relationship with ISIS as “ambivalent.”

“Saudi Arabia has an ambivalent strategy when it comes to ISIS. The Saudi government itself does not directly support ISIS,” he said. “But wealthy Saudi businessmen, in particular, are sending ISIS militants money. How much is unknown. And from what we have been able to determine, Arabs in other Gulf states are doing so as well. Those who support ISIS see it as a bulwark against the Shi’ites and the Shi’ite-led government in Iran.”

He said that while the Saudi government is “very concerned” about the violence spread by ISIS militants in Iraq, they don’t act. “Saudi Arabia could theoretically prevent the flow of money toward ISIS, but it does not do so — probably out of concern that such a move could lead to internal political turmoil,” he said. “The government, therefore, sees ISIS as a danger, but there are rich Saudis who see in ISIS a spiritual ally against the Shi’ites.”

The war continues in both Iraq and Syria and could even suck in Israel. According to news reports, Iraqi forces are attempting to recapture Tikrit from ISIS. The Wall Street Journal reported last night, that Iraqi forces were struggling to take the village of Awja, Saddam’s birthplace, a few miles outside Tikrit, whereas a few hours later, Reuters reported that they had succeeded. Iraqi security forces also say that they control the road from Tikrit south to Samarra, a distance of about 30 miles.

In Baghdad, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is resisting pressure to step down in favor of a national unity govermnent. “I will never waive the nomination for the premier post since my coalition is the biggest bloc and has the right to have the premier post, and it not the right of any other side to place such conditions,” he said in a speech yesterday. He is moving, however, to shake up the leadership of the security forces. According to a report in Britain’s Independent, Maliki fired the heads of both the army ground forces and the federal police, though no replacements had yet been named.

To the west in Syria, ISIS claims to have taken control of Syria’s largest oil field, called al-Omar, without a fight. In Syria, ISIS seems to be now supplanting al Nusra as the main opposition group fighting the rule of Bashar al-Assad in the eastern parts of Syria. Not only was it al Nusra that gave up the al-Omar oil field to ISIS but, according to Reuters, al Nusra also surrendered two towns near the Iraqi border to ISIS after tribal leaders in the area pledged their allegiance to ISIS, thereby further solidifying ISIS’ control of the border region.

Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Yuval Steinitz told Reuters, yesterday, that Israel is ready to help Jordan—including by sending troops—fight off any incursion by ISIS, though he hastened to add that he didn’t think that would be necessary. “If, God forbid, there is a need, if such a request comes, if there is an emergency situation, then of course Israel will extend all help required,” he said. “Israel will not allow groups like ISIS to take over Jordan.”

Iran, Russia pledge to assist Iraq in fighting terrorists & protecting integrity

Published on Jul 6, 2014
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister says Tehran and Moscow have agreed to jointly help Iraq combat terrorism.
Hossein Amir Abdullahian says Tehran and Moscow will firmly stand by the Iraqi nation and government to protect the country’s integrity and sovereignty. He added that both countries are strongly opposed to a Zionist plot that aims to split Iraq into smaller countries. Tehran and Moscow believe that Baghdad should seriously consider convening the parliament to form a government alongside efforts to combat terrorism. On the future of Iraq, Abdullahian said Tehran will respect and back any coalition formed by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maleki’s State of law coalition that has won most parliamentary seats in recent elections.

ISIL terrorists force 60,000 people out of homes in Syria’s Dayr al-Zawr province

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the ISIL or Da’esh has forced 60-thousand people out of their homes in Dayr al-Zawr province in Syria. The monitoring group says Takfiri terrorists expelled some 30-thousand residents from the town of Shuheil after seizing it on Thursday from al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front. Another 30-thouand residents have also been forced from their homes in the towns of Khosham and Tabia Jazeera in eastern Dayr al-Zawr province. Residents feared the terrorists may plan to loot their homes. The Observatory says the large displacement has left thousands sleeping in the open, facing food and water shortages.
