Solutions to turn this ship around. A revolution without blood

Do some of the things your government is doing make your blood boil?

Like many patriotic citizens witnessing their country’s beloved ideals being eroded away by fear, paranoia, and corruption, you are probably not alone in wanting to put a stop to it one way or another.

But to a careful observer, so much of what is happening seems to be deliberately fueling the fires of bloody revolution. Add that to the US governments over-preparation for such an event and you have to wonder if it’s wanted in order to be able to enact a plan long in effect.

Just like at a peacful protest, use of excessive force is obviously unacceptable, but if things were to get violent and out of control, that force can be viewed as being necessary to save lives.

Compare this with an armed revolution, obviously it will be met with excessive force – while also easily falling prey to the propaganda that views it as barbaric and misguided on part of the citizens and not the establishment. But is it the only way?

While it’s becoming more apparent that simple voting acheives nothing, I propose that the people demand certain common sense changes to target the root of the problem – corruption, infiltration, deceit, etc. 

Some of these changes have no logical rebuttal, and for any politician to deny them is to expose their own corruption. But they do require more interaction with the public, so it is up to us to create and keep true democracy.

1. Campaign promises must be a legally binding contract. To elect a representative based on a promise, is to democratically choose someone that the people feel best represents them. If the promise is broken, a contract is broken. Democracy actually ceases to exist when a promise is broken because it was not the will of the people, and therefore must be recified in order to restore democracy itself and to prevent a quasi dictatorship. If a politician breaks a campaign promise, they should be subject to a full inquiry to explain the reason it was necessary to break, and if the people are not satified, must either do as originally promised or be removed from power.

2. Vote of no confidence. The people should have the right to call to vote out an elected official as much as they do to vote in, without waiting for the term to end. This obviously reduces the damage an unpopular leader can do. Unpopular can be perhaps be determined by a less than 50% approval rating.

3. Contributions, donations, etc must be either fully transparent or completely illegal. Too many times politicians choose the will of their contributors, since it is they who funded them into power. And contributors will only choose politicians who may be sympathetic to their corporation or view etc. This is far too close to bribery for comfort or and encourages temptation to ignore the will of the people. Governor Jessie Ventura suggests to go so far as for the politician to wear their corporate sponsors’ logos like racing drivers do. While the extremity of the idea is debatable, knowing who is paying a politician while they give their views on a certain issue is certainly necessary for the public to make a clear and informed opinion.

4. No more 2 party majority. For the political landscape to be able to represent the public and remain balanced, it must include the influence of independant philosophies. “Voting” for the lesser of 2 evils when the people know they are more or less the same is not democracy - it is a duopoly, a 2 party dictatorship. Accomplishing this will be no small feat, but necessary for democracy to survive.
