U.S. House votes to Repeal Obamacare
In what it would be considered as the first blowback for resulting from Obama’s imperial posturing since he grabbed the presidency in 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives, which is controlled by Republicans, voted 239-186 to say no to the so-called Affordable Care Act.
While many people see this vote more as a political stunt than as a vore out of real concern, Republicans argue that the costs of medical care under the Affordable Care Act have increased and will continue to increase and that Americans have less freedom to choose health insurance.
The U.S. House bill approved on Tuesday intends to fully repeal Obamacare, the health care reform project that Obama said is intended to extend universal health insurance to at least 30 million people in the U.S..
Most of the people favored under Obamacare, the president said, are those who live in poverty and who cannot afford to pay for healthcare. However, among many of the details that have now been revealed, Obamacare does not only affect the poor, but it also forces middle class people to pay more taxes in order to support Obamacare.
The Affordable Care Act is allegedly Obama’s most distiguished political project as President the United States, however, it has found strong resistance among members of the public who the law is supposed to help. On Tuesday, Democrats voted en bloc against the Republican initiative with three Republican congressmen joining their coreligionists.
The repeal is still not final since it awaits a vote at the Senate, where Republicans intend to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care legislation in the coming weeks.
As Republicans are also the majority in the Senate, they have already proclaimed from the rooftops that they will end Obamacare.
According to official data, some seven million Americans who were previously uninsured are now beneficiaries of healthcare under the new rules. “We need health care reform that makes the system more responsive to patients, families and doctors — reforms that preserve and protect the doctor-patient relationship.
Right now, ObamaCare is moving our health care system in the exact opposite direction where the American people are paying more and getting less,” said Representative Tom Price, Republican from Georgia.
It is worth mentioning that the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule of several challenges raised against Obamacare and that Congress’ actions regarding the Affordable Care Act legislation may influence the Court’s decision to uphold Obamacare in the near future.
