Syria: Kurdish Forces Win Back over 20 ISIL-Ruled Strategic Towns, Villages in North

The Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Syria took back control of 22 important towns and villages in the Northern parts of the country from the Takfiri terrorists over the past 24 hours.

The Kurdish forces seized back 22 strategic towns and villages from the ISIL along Tal Tamr-Aleppo Highway on Thursday.

The towns of Sokhreh, Khazuka, Tal Tavil and Bir Attiya were among the towns seized back by the YPG fighters in the Northern parts of the country.

On Monday, the YPG in Syria took back control of a strategic town of Suluk from the Takfiri terrorists in the Reqqa province.

Suluk is of strategic importance due to its closeness to the Turkish borders.

On Sunday, the Kurdish fighters seized back another strategic town known as Tal Abyad.

Also on Sunday, a YPG statement said that its fighters have encircled the ISIL-held town of Suluk, a few kilometers to Southwest of Tal Abyad.

It said that the ISIL terrorists have lost control over Suluk and Kurdish forces were advancing toward Tal Abyad.

It also said the road linking Tal Abyad with Reqqa was under YPG control. The report could not be immediately confirmed. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Kurds were less than 10 kilometers (six miles) away from Tal Abyad.

The loss of Suluk and Tal Abyad would be a major blow to the ISIL group.

The border towns are major avenues for commerce for the extremist group — through which it smuggles in foreign fighters and sells black-market oil. The city is also a key link between Turkey and the Northern Syrian city of Reqqa, the de-facto capital of the ISIL group’s self-declared caliphate.

The YPG has made a determined push into Reqqa province from neighboring Hasaka where it has driven ISIL from wide areas of territory since early May.

Iraqi Police Kill At Least 20 ISIL Terrorists in Beiji

The Iraqi police’s anti-terrorist operations in the nearby areas of Beiji left at least 20 ISIL fighters dead and some others injured, the Federal Police Command confirmed.

“Today, forces of the federal police stormed the ISIL positions in Beiji, North of Tikrit, and killed 20 elements of the ISIL terrorist group,” Chief of the Federal Police Forces Raed Shaker Jawdat announced.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently control shrinking swathes of Syria and Iraq. They have threatened all communities, including Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Ezadi Kurds and others, as they continue their atrocities in Iraq.

One Constant: US Troublemaking in Middle East

Last year, several Arab nations allied themselves with Washington to “do their share” to fight the terrorist group of ISIL – their own creation.

Remarkably, the one government most eager to fight ISIL was that of Syria, which Washington ruled out as a partner in its imaginary coalition. This only meant one thing: Washington was not serious about “containing” and ultimately “destroying” ISIL. Washington’s dodgy little explanation was that “America cannot rely on an Assad regime that will never regain the legitimacy it has lost.” Apparently, legitimacy has a different meaning to the Americans than the rest of the world. Because as far as we know, Assad and his government have been fighting tens of thousands of militants who are, even by the White House, referred to as terrorists. We also know that Assad won a crushing majority of the votes of not just those inside, but those expats who have left the country after the start of war and as far as we know the Damascus government had no pressure leverage to make them vote in favor of Assad in the presidential election.

Yet, the US has never been asked to “rely” on President Assad – it is President Assad who relies for support on Iran, Russia and China. And his legitimacy is accepted and endorsed by his people and many other independent nations across the globe.

Notwithstanding, Washington and its silent partners are still beating the drums of war. A few years ago it was Iran, with “all options on the table.” Then it was a red line that threatened to drag the world into the conflict in Syria. This time it is Yemen (capitulation) and Iraq (division) with a Syria extension (regime change) – under the pretext of destroying ISIL.

But destroying Washington’s monstrous creation cannot and will not create an effective and legitimate state, or bring about peace and harmony to the Middle East and North Africa. All the military power in the world won’t solve these problems.

In an interdependent, interconnected world, struggling to build fraternity, economic cooperation and human security, there is no place for America’s perpetual wars or Cold War policies of killing and threats to kill, and/or policies of exceptionalism, superiority and self-interest. The world has changed and has had enough of American wars. Nations do not want to be divided. Any doubters should ask the Iraqi and Syrian peoples.

The US and its allies must recognise that their violent policies are counterproductive. Terrorist groups like ISIL will not be solved with guns, but with justice, regional dialogue and international cooperation.

American officials have always done empty lip service to ideals like freedom and democracy; they have always repeated tired tropes about “assisting” or “liberating” peoples. Their rhetoric about the four wars in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan is not that different either.

Seeing that, there is no future in the new war on terror in Iraq and Syria. American wars have never been about freedom and liberation. They have always been about profit for the Military-Industrial Complex and the American empire.

American troublemaking is the “one constant” in this part of the world. America started the war on terror. America perpetuated the war on terror. And America is entirely responsible for the war on terror. Now Obama is re-launching a new round of the war on terror through additional escalation in Iraq and Syria. We’ve had enough of this garbage.
