Tehran expected to invoke defense pact for large-scale troop deployment to Syria

Thursday, June 4, reliable sources in Tehran expected the Iranian government to invoke its 2006 mutual defense pact with Syria “in the coming hours” for the transfer of Iranian troops to Syria – most likely by air. This was reported by debkafile’s exclusive military and intelligence sources. It would be Tehran’s first direct military intervention in the Syria conflict as it goes into its fifth year. Bashar Assad’s regime and the Syrian and Hizballah armies are collapsing under the twin assaults of the Islamic State and the armed Syrian opposition forces and in need of urgent life support….

….Tehran was persuaded that, without direct intervention, its ally would go under at any moment Thursday when Islamic State forces broke through Syrian army defenses to the northern Syrian Kurdish town of Hasakeh, which sits on the Syrian-Iraqi-Turkish border junction. Towards evening, the Islamists had come to within one kilometer of the strategic town and captured its power station. Its defenders, the Syrian army’s 52nd Division, were falling apart under the ISIS assault; some of the soldiers making a run for it.

Although the town is ruled by a coalition of central government and local Kurds, there was no operational coordination between the Syrian and Kurdish forces defending the town against the common enemy.

UN envoy to Iraq praises Iran’s role in battling terrorism

Iran says threat of ISIL has endangered entire region

Iran Asks UN to Consider Realities in Region, Warns of ISIL Plots

Stressing that fighting the ISIL in Iraq needs the presence of all tribes, groups and minorities, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq Ján Kubiš said, “It is necessary that we support the central government in Iraq and strengthen it and the presence and partnership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in all the regional and international consultations on Iraq will be constructive.”

In relevant remarks yesterday, Iranian Supreme Leader’s top adviser for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati lashed out at those regional states that have created and supported the Takfiri terrorist groups in the region, warning that their support for ISIL and other terrorist cells backfires as the Jinni is out of the bottle now.

“The ISIL is a danger that threatens all parts of the world and we are somehow informed of the incentives of ISIL supporters and the measures they take,” Velayati said in a meeting with Kubiš in Tehran on Saturday.

“Supported by certain Asian regional states, some western states equip, train and send terrorist groups to Syria, Iraq and Lebanon to kill people, destroy the infrastructures and implement divisive plots but these groups are a danger to their creators,” he added.

Velayati underlined Tehran’s continued assistance to the regional states, warning that Iran will not remain inactive against the terrorist groups if they threaten its borders.

Iraqi Army Wins Back 7 Key Towns in Karama from ISIL

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iraqi army and popular forces seized back 7 strategic towns in al-Karama region in al-Anbar province, Baghdad Operations Command Center announced on Sunday.

The army’s Brigade 59 regained full control over five regions of al-Hamra, Ma’askar al-Hamra, al-Bodlov, al-Bu Issa and al-Malali towns in al-Karama region.

Meantime, the 1st Brigade of the army’s rapid reaction forces won back al-Zajalieh and al-Maqala near al-Karama.

Earlier today, the Iraqi army backed by the volunteer forces started a new offensive to seize back two strategic towns near al-Karama.

“The army’s 1st Brigade, backed by Baghdad operations command center and volunteer forces, started new operations in Northern al-Karama (53 kilometers to the East of al-Ramadi) to regain control of al-Maqala and al-Hamra towns,” al-Sumeria news quoted an Iraqi security source as saying, on the condition of anonymity.

The source noted that the Iraqi forces advanced in al-Maqala and al-Hamra towns and heavy clashes broke out between the government forces and the ISIL terrorists.

ISIL Suffers Major Setbacks in Aleppo, Homs

TEHRAN (FNA)- The ISIL terrorists suffered a serious setback on the outskirts of Homs and Aleppo provinces on Sunday after the Syrian army launched a surprise attack against the terror group.

The Syrian soldiers stormed the ISIL hideouts in the Northern and Eastern countryside of Aleppo and Homs early on Sunday, forestalling the terror group for launching further attacks against the Arab country.

Elsewhere in Syria, the Takfiri groups suffered major losses in the areas of al-Salamiyah, Umm Taweenah, Zanouba, and Rasm Al-Qadisiyah, after the army troops made gains in their battle against the ISIL terrorists in Eastern Hama.

Earlier in the day, more than 200 ISIL terrorists participated in a major operation in an attempt to take over Deir Ezzur’s military airport, but the Syrian troops managed to drive them out, forcing them to flee the battlefield.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently control shrinking swathes of Syria and Iraq. They have threatened all communities, including Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Ezadi Kurds and others, as they continue their atrocities in Iraq.

Senior Iraqi officials have blamed Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and some Persian Gulf Arab states for the growing terrorism in their country.

The ISIL has links with Saudi intelligence and is believed to be indirectly supported by the Israeli regime.

Syrian Army Pushes Back 200 ISIL Terrorists in Deir Ezzur

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army inflicted major losses on the ISIL Takfiri group after the terrorists attempted to launch an attack against an air base in the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur on Sunday.

According to Syrian media reports, more than 200 ISIL terrorists participated in a major operation early on Sunday in an attempt to take over Deir Ezzur’s military airport, but the Syrian troops managed to drive them out, forcing them to flee the battlefield.

The reports added that large groups of the terrorists lost their lives in the operation.

ISIL launched another assault at the military airport of Deir Ezzur on Saturday morning, as the ISIL Takfiri terrorists attempted to infiltrate into the frontline defenses of the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade.

Additionally, fire fights were reported in the areas of Al-Rasafa, Arfa, Al-Kanamat, Sheikh Yasseen, Al-Rashadiyah, and Al-Jubeileh Quarters of the provincial capital, along with clashes at the villages of Al-Muri’iyah, ‘Ayyash, and Al-Jafra.
