The Saudi-led forces sustained heavy casualties in the Yemeni army’s missile attack on the Bab al-Mandeb region in Southwestern Yemen.

The Yemeni forces missiles hit the Saudi-led coalition’s command headquarters in Sha’ab al-Jen region near Bab al-Mandeb, killing over 150 coalition servicemen, including 23 Saudi troops, 9 UAE officers and soldiers, seven Moroccan officers and 42 Blackwater troops.

It said that the burnt bodies of 146 Saudi-led military troops have been transferred to the city of Aden and Saudi Arabia has sent a warship to Ta’iz to transfer the wounded from Bab al-Mandeb region.

Earlier today, the United Arab Emirates acknowledged that two of its army colonels were killed in the attack.

Colonel Sultan Mohammed bin Havidan al-Kotobi was among the over 150 Saudi-led troops killed in the Yemeni forces’ attack on the coalition’s military positions in the Southwestern Yemen.

The UAE armed forces also acknowledged that another army high-ranking officer named Colonel Sultan Mohamed Ali al-Kotobi was killed in the province of Ta’iz in Yemen on Sunday.

Meantime, Saudi army’s Colonel Abdullah al-Sahyan was killed in Yemeni missile attack near Al-Amri military base in Bab al-Mandeb region.

Al-Sahyan succumbed to his injuries before a Saudi-led coalition helicopter could transfer him to a nearby hospital.

Yemeni Forces Destroy 2 Other Saudi Warships

Yemen’s army and popular forces targeted and destroyed two Saudi warships in the waters near Bab al-Mandab Strait on Monday, bringing the number of the Saudi vessels sent down in the waters offshore Yemen to 10.

The Saudi warships were reportedly two destroyers and were targeted by the Yemeni army missiles in the Al-Mukha coastal waters in the province of Ta’iz today.

The Yemeni popular forces said the sunken ships had repeatedly fired rockets at residential areas in Ta’iz province, inflicting casualties and destruction there.

Yemen’s army has thus far destroyed ten warships of the Saudi-led coalition forces in Bab al-Mandab Strait in the last several months.

Other Saudi battleships that were approaching Yemen’s coasts retreated fast following the attack.

The coast of Al-Mukha is located in Bab al-Mandab strait and the Saudi-led forces have been trying hard for several months now to win control over the coastal regions near the waterway.

On December 11, the Yemeni forces destroyed a Saudi warship in the Bab-Mandab Strait.

On December 5, the Yemeni forces targeted and destroyed a Saudi warship in the waters near Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Yemen truce to take effect Monday midnight local time

Saudis postpone Yemen ceasefire until 0900 GMT on Tuesday

A ceasefire to halt nine months of Saudi aggression against its southern neighbor Yemen will take hold at noon local time (0900 GMT) on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia says.

In a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Riyadh said the truce, which was earlier scheduled to begin at midnight on Monday, will begin the following day upon a request by fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The statement also warned that Saudi Arabia “reserves the right to respond in case of any violation” of the truce.

According to the statement, Hadi wrote to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, informing him of a decision by the former Yemeni government to “declare a seven-day ceasefire initiative” on the eve of UN-brokered peace talks on Yemen in Switzerland.

”The ceasefire (will last) for a period of seven days starting from the 15th to the 21st of December in conjunction with the launch of consultations, and will be renewed automatically in the event of the commitment of the other party,” the statement quoted Hadi as saying.

Two previous ceasefires, in May and July, were followed by accusations of violations by both sides.

Representatives of both the Houthi Ansarullah movement and the Saudi-backed former Yemeni president are now in Switzerland ahead of the Tuesday talks aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen.

Yemen has been under Saudi military strikes on a daily basis since late March. The military campaign is meant to undermine the Ansarullah movement and return Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh, to power.

More than 7,500 people have been killed and over 14,000 others injured since the strikes began. The Saudi war has also taken a heavy toll on the impoverished country’s facilities and infrastructure.
