Lena Dunham Has a List of “Sexist” Words You Can’t Use to Describe Hillary Clinton

The fecklessness of the Republican establishment did not give rise to Donald Trump. What gave rise to Donald Trump – or at least contributed to it – is the vaguely totalitarian way liberals are trying to control the thought processes of Americans by making roughly half the words in the English language improper in polite conversation because they are offensive to someone or some thing.

Comes now Lena Dunham to explain that the entire media is sexist every time they discuss Hillary Clinton’s campaign. She wants to solve this by literally providing the media with a list of words they cannot use to describe Hillary.

“The way that Hillary Clinton has been talked about in the media is so gendered and rabidly sexist in every single portrayal,” Dunham said. “The adjectives, whether it’s attacks on her personal life or the adjectives that are used to describe her clothing, we have to do a full re-examination.”

“Like, I literally want to make a list that we hand to media outlets that says these are the words you can’t use when you’re describing a female candidate: shrill, inaccessible, difficult, frumpy, plastic,” the “Girls” star continued. “I mean, there’s just a list of words that if we were allowed to talk about male candidates like that, I’d have a f***ing field day. I’d enjoy my life so much.”

Maybe this is just my male chauvinist caveman perspective, but I would think that in order to cross a word off our acceptable list as “sexist,” it would need to at the very least be a word that you’d only use to describe a female. So, “shrill” would make the first cut along with “frumpy,” although I would argue that “frumpy” has lots of male equivalents that are used to describe Bernie Sanders all the time (the guy is just a perpetual schlemp, and the media points it out all the time). I would also point out that not all women are called shrill just because they’re shrill – only the shrill ones. Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin are both pretty shrill. Joni Ernst and Dianne Feinstein are not. There are lots of equivalent words that are used pretty exclusively about men, and the relevant question is not whether those words are sexist, but whether they are true.

But what the hell are “inaccessible,” “difficult,” and “plastic” doing on that list? Mitt Romney was called plastic just about once a week here at RedState during both 2008 and 2012, for the simple reason that he was plastic. Is “plastic” a sexist attack when it’s used against men, or only when it’s used against women? “Inaccessible” and “difficult” are just so far beyond the pale of even potentially sexist words that it’s difficult to grasp where Dunham is even coming from.

More to the point, who the hell says that Lena Dunham is not “allowed” to talk about male candidates any way she wants? If she thinks that her life would be more fun if she called Chris Christie “shrill” then I think I can speak for pretty much everyone on the planet when I say, “knock yourself out, Lena – however you want to occupy your time so that you don’t feel compelled to appear on camera naked is fine with us.” Similarly, if she wants to accuse Marco Rubio of being “frumpy,” then more power to her.

By the way? If it’s “sexist” to attack Hillary Clinton’s personal life, then you know who’s a sexist? Lena Dunham:

But at an Upper East Side dinner party a few months back, Ms. Dunham expressed more conflicted feelings. She told the guests, at the Park Avenue apartment of Richard Plepler, the chief executive of HBO, that she was disturbed by how, in the 1990s, the Clintons and their allies discredited women who said they had had sexual encounters with or been sexually assaulted by former President Bill Clinton.

This sort of muddled thinking is nothing more than anyone should expect from a person who is famous solely because she has the “courage” to inflict her unattractive naked form on the American public. Why she thinks this resume makes her qualified to tell all of America what words they can and cannot use is beyond me, but thankfully I don’t belong to the political movement that treats Lena Dunham and people like her seriously so I don’t really have to care.
